In this episode, we gathered testimonies from citizens of Maghreb. We spoke to journalists, policy experts, students, business owners, civil society activists. They gave us a snippet of their internet use when the pandemic hit. While some problems are in relation with traffic congestion due to unexpected high demand during lockdowns, others are due to old unsolved issues such as poor ressources, digital gap and poor quality service. We also tackled the impact of the war on the telecommunication sector in Libya. Another testimony focused on the frequent internet shutdowns in Mauritania. The authorities justify these shutdowns by measures to limit cheating in national exams. The country also witnessed post elections shutdowns as protests sparked.
