In this episode of our podcast, we interviewed Mr. Tawfik, JELASSI former Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Information Communication Technologies in the Government of Tunisia. We had the opportunity to discuss many critical subjects including a current state assessment of digital in Tunisia and the Maghreb region, the digital gap, the country’s readiness for emerging technologies and the related social changes. We also tackled the question of the COVID-19 crisis, and Mr.Jelassi emphasized that such an international crisis should not go to waste. In contrary Tunisia should seize this opportunity to develop and create a true momentum to be proactive and create innovative solutions.

In this episode, we tackle the subject of cybersecurity, the rise of cyberthreats and its repercussions on vulnerable groups like women and children. Our guest is Salma Belhassine, national coordinator of Salamat initiative. We focused on gender based cyberviolence targeting women and children. Our guest spoke of the repeated request they receive asking about blackmailing harassment online and privacy violations. She highlighted the society's tendency to blame the victim of cyber harassment. She spoke of the need to extend collaboration to educate more communities on how to take necessary safeguards and apply existing laws effectively in favor of vulnerable groups.
In this episode, we have a conversation about digitization and how covid impacted digitalization in the Maghreb region.
We started by giving an overall idea on the current state of digital transformation and the covid impact. Mr Mezghani emphasized on how the pandemic showed the true need for digital tools and for governments to identify the real need to provide services online and collect taxes by upgrading current services.
In this episode, we gathered testimonies from citizens of Maghreb. We spoke to journalists, policy experts, students, business owners, civil society activists.They gave us a snippet of their internet use when the pandemic hit. While some problems are in relation with traffic congestion due to unexpected high demand during lockdowns, others are due to old unsolved issues such as poor ressources, digital gap and poor quality service. We also tackled the impact of the war on the telecommunication sector in Libya. Another testimony focused on the frequent internet shutdowns in Mauritania. The authorities justify these shutdowns by measures to limit cheating in national exams. The country also witnessed post elections shutdowns as protests sparked.
