This is a little bonus episode to help promote the book Tony's story is going to be in. You can back it here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/scifiandfantasy/a-winter-of-sci-fi-and-fantasy-vol-2-short-story-anthology

Alan-a-Dale will take over the podcast by this time next year.

Music used is Theme From Penguins on Parade by Lee Rosevere, from the album Music for Podcasts 3.

Look, nobody likes ads. But what if ads were sprinkled so seamlessly into a movie, so casually into character conversation, that they were literally not removable from the movie itself?

Oh, that’s worse? Well, this seems like a bad time to mention that I think you should back a kickstarter.

The Kickstarter in question is A Winter of Sci-fi & Fantasy: Vol 2, a short story anthology that Tony's got a story in.

This episode has layers, and that's not a Shrek reference.

We've got ghosts, a cursed discord call, and an actor phoning it in so hard it drags the movie straight down.

Not down to Hell, though. That comes later.

Against all odds, we have persevered through The Summer of the Puppet. Let it not be said that we do not follow through on questionable ideas.

And at the end of it all, we found one film that was emotionally scarring, one that was high art, one that was light fun, and one that was... underwhelming. I guess you get what you pay for with a direct-to-streaming Disney film.

Imagine, if you will, a movie that acts like a play. Imagine singing that is sub-par and dancing that is pretty good, actually. Imagine tears welling up in one of our host’s eyes as a sitcom actor begs for death.

Imagine if we don’t actually talk about the plot of the film for about half an hour.

This one? It's a good movie. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll experience creepy stop-motion cinema at its finest. However, you might have to watch Disney's original Pinocchio to actually enjoy it.

Also, Andy comes out of nowhere with some crazy Pinocchio book lore that absolutely would destroy any child reading it.

This movie is about a boy who has two dads who never meet each other, and they each independently drop the ball pretty hard. It was pretty good! If it wasn’t so upsetting near the end, kids today might still want to watch it.

Instead it, uh, instilled a fear of whales into a generation of kids.

This... this was a tough one.

We really thought we knew what we were getting into, you know? We thought we understood. We didn't think Disney would make every possible bad decision and release an ugly, bloated, cheap-looking and yet somehow very expensive monstrosity onto the viewing public.

But they sure did!

This is it. The one that started it all. Disney’s first foray into moviemaking, and the first full-length animated movie ever produced. And it has way more music than you remember. Most of it is bad.

Important questions:

Is the Evil Queen a stealth feminist icon?

Why is the prince so weird, and why does his song suck so much?

D-did Snow White ascend into heaven at the end?

The music we used is Homeward by Scott Buckley and Theme from Penguins on Parade by Lee Rosevere, off of Music for Podcasts 3.

We’ve done it. It’s over.

We killed the franchise.

This is a return to form, imaginary readers. This movie? It’s bad. In fact, it’s mostly nonsense. And we watched it. On purpose.

...

Number Nine wasn't even IN it! They didn't mention The Secret Arts ONCE!
