Hello everyone and welcome to a special podcast right here at The Young Folks. With the impending release of Logan, we thought it would be a good idea to discuss the X-men franchise as a whole. Since 2000, the series has evolved and expanded well beyond the initlal trilogy to include spin-offs and a sort of reboot (continuity is not what this franchise is known for). There have been some incredible highs, some disapponting lows and everything else in between.
During this podcast, writers Matt Goudreau and Michael Fairbanks recorded their thoughts on:
As a brief aside, both Matthew and Michael already discussed X-men: First Class on episode 11 of Directors of Cinema. On this episode, Matt is joined once again by Nathanael Hood, a previous guest on episode 13 (Kevin Smith). This time, Nathanael chose to dicsuss his cinematic idol John Ford. With over 100 films to his name (not even including the films lost to time), the boys simply couldn't do him justice. Instead, they decided to choose a few films from each decade of his illustrious career. Some of the films mentioned include:

On this episode, Matt is joined by first time guests Katey S. and co-founder of The Young Folks Gabrielle B. Luckily for your host, both were willing and more than ready to discuss the merits of director Christopher Nolan. Thanks to his Dark Knight Trilogy and films like Inception and Memento, Nolan has become a favorite for mainstream and critic audiences alike. Does his filmography warrant the praise he receives? You'll have to listen in order to find out.

On this episode, Matt is joined by first time guest Lesley Coffin. Coffin, a dedicated film enthusiast, agreed to come aboard to discuss the career of one of the great American auteurs. His name? Francis Ford Coppola, a director with multiple masterpieces to his name. A graduate of the "Roger Corman school of filmmaking, Coppola has gone on to become one of the most important filmmakers of the American New Wave. Given that The Godfather Trilogy is arguably his most famous achievement, most of the discussion is centered around those films. As a result, this is a much longer episode than usual but the conversation (no pun intended) is as in depth as ever.
Some of the talking points discussed during the podcast include:

On this episode, Matt welcomes first time guest Camille Espiritu to the show. Before they dive into the films of director Andrew Stanton, Camille was ecstatic to detail her recent experience touring the Pixar studio in California....to Matt's envy. Speaking of Pixar, the majority of Stanton's films have been released under the banner of Pixar. Compared to prior episodes, this one is a bit more laid back because Stanton only has a few films to his directorial name. That doesn't stop Matt and Camille from discussing Finding Dory, Wall-E, A Bug's Life, and John Carter.
