There you have it, the beginning of another episode of Dirty Poetry,
using the word poetry very loosely. This episode is couple of
stories about libraries and librarians. Before we get to the
goddesses who bring life to these hallowed halls, let’s give some
credit to the students and researchers who find their adventures back
in the stacks. Our first story is about a grad student who, in a haze
of exhaustion, discovers what she is really looking for.
Between The Pages by Z.S. Roe
That was Between The Pages written by Z.S. Roe who describes
himself as a book lover, a tea addict and by trade, a glass worker.
Z.S. Row is primarily a poet but nevertheless has 10 published short
stories, the latest being what Grew Before the Sun, which was
published in the Big Book of Orgasms, Volume 2 that came out in 2022.
For many of us who came from a time before there was an internet,
libraries were our window on the world. Like diving into an ocean,
there was always so much more to explore. They were all, large and
small, places that were cherished and revered. They were, and are,
populated by brilliant women. Brilliant women who work so hard at
being contained and proper. But to my eye, they are goddesses who
bring life to hallowed halls. And they are always so much more a
woman than their work allows them to be.
When I was young, I would travel to one of the great libraries,
sometimes several hours on a bus. There were statues by famous
artists at the entrance and great art hung in the halls. The main
reading room was huge, long and cavernous with a high arched and
vaulted ceiling. As you entered there was the scent of old books with
the promise of ancient knowledge for those who would dig. All of it,
free to the people. It was a hallowed and solemn place.
For a time, I would go there every week or two. The subject I was
interested in those days was propulsion units. This caught the
attention of a particular research librarian who set herself on the
hunt for me. I would stop by her desk to pick up her list of
references and the bundle of photocopies she had collected for me
from the latest journals and sometimes even restricted government
research. She was brilliant. And beautiful. When there was occasion
to come around the desk, I could catch the faint flowery springtime
perfume of my librarian mingled with the scent of fresh photocopies
copies on her desk. All of that with the bassnote of old books and
leather that permeated the place. Those memories have not faded.
I do have a confession though, it was not until very recently that
I realized that I am not the only one who has fantasies of the
Goddesses who inhabit libraries. I’m not the only one who thinks
intelligent women are sexy. Who knew? Joe Cocker sings ‘you can
leave your hat on’. Well, as far as I'm concerned, you can leave
your glasses on too. No doubt, the libraries were where my
fascination with intelligent women began.
And speaking of intelligent, interesting women. Our next story is
written by Susannah Indigo. Susanna Indigo is a character in her own
right. She is, and has been for many years, a very active and
prolific erotic short story author. She has edited many erotic short
story anthologies. She founded in 1998 the erotic literary journal
Clean Sheets, which, in it’s day, was a home to many great erotic
writers. She has since co-founded and is currently an editor at Slow
Trains, a general literary journal that covers a wide range of
subjects. Many of today's greatest writers have found a home there.
The next story that I have for you, I read years ago and it...
Stay
with me for this episode of Dirty Poetry. Go ahead. Take it all. The
whole enchilada.
This episode of Dirty Poetry is about shopkeepers who happen to be
big women. Women like sex. Big women like sex. Let's see how that all
turns out. Let's give a listen to our first story.
Small Packages by Tenille Brown
That story, Small Packages was written by Tenille Brown, who
describes herself as a shoe shopping, wine drinking southern writer.
She is an author of erotic short stories who has been at her trade
for quite some time. She's been published in over 30 different erotic
story anthologies among them Fast Girls, Making The Hookup, Best
Bondage Erotica, F Is For Fetish, and the anthology that our stories
in this episode come from, which is entitled Curvy Girls edited by
Rachel Kramer Bustle.
Ms Bustle has edited over 30 erotic story anthologies. Her erotic
short story writing has been published in over 100 anthologies. She's
been an editor at Penthouse on television appearances, and had
regular magazine columns. Our Curvy Girls anthology comes to us from
a name that you probably recognize Rachel Kramer bustle
In this anthology, Curvy Girls, she asked April Flores to write
the forward. In that forward. Ms Flores says, “For the longest time
we've been told the lie that being thin equals being beautiful, happy
and desirable. And somewhere along the line we've also been led to
believe that fat people don't enjoy sex or possibly that we're not
worthy of enjoying sex.” All right, let's back up a little bit
here. April Flores is herself a big beautiful woman and, in addition
to many other things, she is a model and a porn star. In the forward
to Curvy Girls she says, “Women enjoy sex. Fat women enjoy sex. I
am one of those women and have had the extreme privilege of being
able to explore and express my own sexuality within my work. I've
been able to live out many fantasies while making an effort to send
my message of body and size positivity. I am an exhibitionist by
nature and performing in adult films and posing for photographers and
artists has allowed me to expand on my exhibitionism. I've been so
lucky as to have been able to broaden my sexuality by working with a
diverse range of performers who representative variety of races,
gender identities and levels of experience with each shoot. I have
learned from my partner and have been able to take away something
new. In my opinion, confidence is what makes someone attractive. You
have good sex when you feel good about yourself, regardless of your
body size. The characters and curvy girls are enjoying every bit of
their sexuality and I enjoyed experiencing their sexuality too.”
Amen Sister. Confidence is sexy, and we all want to be sexy.
The next story in this episode also from the Curvy Girls anthology
is written by Lolita Lopez. Ms Lopez is actually a serial novelist.
She generally tells her stories in a series of novels. Her writing
style is what she describes as super sexy science fiction. Her titles
include Dead Sexy Dragon, one of the Dragon Heat series, Caught By
Menace, one of the titles from the Grabbed series, Margaritas and
Mayhem from the Holiday Menage series. In 2021 she was invited to a
group writing project with some of today's greatest science fiction
writers that was published under the title Cyborg Redemption. In this
episode of Dirty Poetry, Ms Lopez, known to her friends and fans as
‘Lo’, has written an erotic short story about a big beautiful
woman. Lo is a Texas girl and she's written us a sexy short story
about a shopkeeper in Houston. A baker...
And there you have it, just a taste of the Dirty Poetry yet to come.
Stay with me for all the rest of this episode of Dirty Poetry, using
the word poetry very loosely.
Our first story is about a group of old
friends who have known each other for years and years. They've
traveled together and had adventures and have been a part of each
others lives for a long time. They know each other well. They have
for a long time, had a monthly card game. Everything was always
friendly and normal... until tonight... when things got strange.
Let's take a listen.
That was Heads-Up Poker. Written by
Susan Di Placido. Ms Di Placido is a prolific author. She has, to
date, published ten novels and one collection of short stories. Her
stories almost always involve gambling and card playing and many of
them are set in Las Vegas. But regardless of the setting, Ms Di
Placido always manages to work in a lot of steamy spicy sex scenes.
Her work has been recognized and awarded in the literary world. Her
short story, “I, Candy” won the Spirit Award at the 2005 Moon
Dance International Film Festival. Her short story collection,
American Cool won the bronze medal in the 2008 IPPY Awards and it was
a finalist for the 2008 Indie Book Awards. Her novel Shuffle Up and
Deal was nominated for the Romantic Times Reviewer's Choice Award for
Best Erotic Fiction in 2010. Susan Di Placido’s work has been
published in many places. Among them, Maxim Jakubowski’s Mammoth
Book Of Best New Erotica in both volume six and volume seven, Zane's
Caramel Flava, Run Devil Run, Slow Trains Literary Review, Rebellion:
New Voices Of Fiction, Clean Sheets and Susie Bright’s Best
American Erotica 2007, which is where we found our story, Heads-Up
Poker.
Let's take a moment and address the
elephant in the room. Okay, one of the elephants in the room. You
might notice that both of our stories in this episode of Dirty Poetry
are written by women, one of them decidedly lesbian, but both stories
are told from the perspective of heterosexual men. This kind of
gender bending perspective shift is, and always has been, common
among the authors of erotic literature. As readers and listeners,
these stories allow us to walk a mile in someone else’s panties.
And our authors also take an equally joyful turn at that switch. In
fact, part of the beauty of both erotic literature and our own erotic
imagination is, that in the privacy of our own minds, we can all
allow our imaginations, our desires and hungers, to roam freely, to
venture into places that we would never allow to happen in our real
lives. With all of our real life expressions of sexuality that are so
tender, loving, comforting, well... okay, even with the ass slapping,
hair pulling excitement that we want in our real life sexuality,
still there are places, many places that our imagination goes that we
would never allow to see the light of day. Good writers take us to
these forbidden places and bring us safely back again from the
adventures of foreign travel in exotic lands. With our own erotic
fantasies encouraged to take wing, our sexual imaginations are now
allowed to travel to places that are unlikely, improbable. Places
that stretch the boundaries of what sexuality is, and occasionally
even jump the fence into the impossible. Stories that can arouse
possibilities that we would have never imagined. But somehow they
become real for us for just a few brilliant moments in the privacy of
our own minds. It is there, in the privacy of our imagination that we
can begin to discover our own most primal sexual arousals. It is
great writers with their wild tales, with their exotic erotic...
It's a good one.
The reading in this episode of Dirty Poetry is entitled “A Life Of Seductions” written by Nancy Sasha Long. This is an erotic short story that appeared in the anthology Seductions, Tales Of Erotic Persuasions edited by Dr Lonnie Barbach. Our editor, the good Dr Barbach has this to say in the introduction;
“When I think about the most erotic moments of a sexual experience, I am drawn to the delicious and unpredictable build up, the dance of seduction.
Our story tonight is the story of a woman who's fantasies become so constant, so all consuming,
Our editor, Dr Barbach and the author, Nancy Long had this to say about our story;
“Rather than moving towards someone, the motivation behind some seductions is to escape from a certain set of circumstances.
