What are your life priorities? Before you answer, do you know what days you are living in? Jesus says these are the "last days," and so His disciples should have a sense of urgency about making Him known. So again, what are your life priorities?

There are a lot of ideas and fads about what constitutes Christian worship. And then on a practical level, it's so easy for us to get caught up going through the motions each day, and each week. Jesus told the Samaritan woman that true worship is not what you do, or where you do it, but where the worship comes from. Does it come from a heart that is alive to God, or is it just a religious performance?

So often, we tend to live and function with a low view of Jesus. And then we end up complaining that our lot in life is not what we wanted it to be. John the Baptist challenges our thinking in this regard. He accepted the role God gave him, and he rejoiced in becoming less and less, so that Jesus might become greater and greater.

Want to know how to be saved from your sins and reconciled to God? Look to Jesus! Believe in Him, trusting that His death on a cross 2000 ago deals with your sins sufficiently. Look to Him and be saved!

How aware are you of the spiritual dimension of life? For instance, the fact that you have a soul. To believe in Jesus and trust in Him for your salvation involves a spiritual transformation. It is so revolutionary that Jesus described it as being 'born again' spiritually. This transformation is not one of many options available for connecting with God. It is the only option. Without it, you cannot believe in Jesus.

This passage looks at how Paul encourages the Colossians to be working out the Gospel in their community of believers, both in the church and in the home. Our communities may look different in the here and now, but we are always in need of the Gospel to change us and equip us to live together in the way God intended.

While our salvation relies on the goodness of Jesus not the goodness of ourselves, living as a Christian means we can now put off old sinful ways of living. The Apostle Paul likens it to a change of clothing - taking off the old and putting on the new.

It is very easy to become confused between the Gospel of grace and how we should live after we've become a Christian - or, to use big words, between justification and sanctification. In this passage, Paul exhorts the Colossians not to go back to rule keeping as a means of their salvation.

The driving passion of the Apostle Paul was to proclaim the Gospel and see people transformed by their relationship with Jesus. But it came at a cost. He reminds us therefore that Gospel work is not done in our own strength, but by the power of Christ in us!

This passage is one of the best New Testament descriptions of who Jesus is. But it has often been interpreted and explained badly. The bottom line is, Jesus is supreme over all things, and salvation is found in Him alone!
