This teaching is a continuation of the Beatitudes series in which Pastor Russel defined the concept of mourning - the process of experiencing and expressing grief to the point of weeping. He explained how you must have a broken heart to weep; a broken spirit before you can have a broken heart; how pride builds a wall of insulated indifference between a Christian and His sensitivity and how mourning is needed but avoided by most Christians.

In this teaching, Pastor Russel used Philippians 2 to illustrate what it means to be poor in Spirit by looking at Jesus.

This teaching is a continuation of the description of those who are poor in spirit. The poor man is aware of His relative insignificance. In this part, Pastor Russell dwells on what's ours and what isn't. What our rights are and aren't as heirs of the kingdom of God.

This is the 4th part of Russell's teaching on the Beatitudes: Jesus's portrait of the beautiful life.

Everything in the universe has spiritual significance. The natural man cannot receive spiritual truth because the spirit is not in control of their life. The spirit of God gives us the capacity to make the switch and appreciate/embrace spiritual truth.
