Disco to Soul ( Taste the 80s) DJ Alex Gutierrez

Listen Later

When I left Miami in December of 1979 to the Navy base in California I would call home for the next year and half , I took my records , but didn't know I would be entering a whole new world of music. No beautiful String and horn arrangements that were so prominently featured on Cerrone and Costandino records that were the staples of Miami Club life of the 70s, instead it was a " Funkier" more street sound. sure, I could still hear some elements of Disco here and there, but the emphasis was on the " Soul" and the " Groove"  songs that would get you dancing anywhere any time. as a young DJ I adapted , my crowds went from being mostly Hipanics, to being black. A musical and cultural education was in store , and it didn't take long for the music to sink deep into my soul. great times at such California Clubs as " Seven Seas" " Broadway" and many more that I played at when i wasn't being a sailor. Of course I gave them a little taste of my Miami flavor. In this mix I pay homage to those years in California when wearing a " Red Velour" Blazer and some " Cazzies" were the norm. enjoy....and hey , I dare you not to " Groove " !!!!!!!!
