    Some time ago, Joe was joined by guests Matt Naas of Roach Koach, and Joshua Toomey of the Talk Toomey podcast to embark on a massive journey through the groove-laden catalog of Maryland's legendary rock outfit Clutch. Spanning nearly thirty years of uncompromising studio releases—from the raw, gritty punch of 1993's Transnational Speedway League to the highly polished, driving energy of 2022's Sunrise on Slaughter Beach—our hosts unpack the legacy of an unwavering four-piece that has not changed its core lineup.

  • Episode 288: Ion Dissonance - Discography Discussion

    On this episode of Discography Discussion, Joe and Lucas will tackle the dense, and brutal discography of Ion Dissonance, a Quebec-based band that has been pushing the limits of mathcore and technical metal since 2003. Our hosts explore the band's evolution from the raw production of their early work to the more polished, eight-string-driven aggression found later in their career.  This band will walk the fine line between musical anarchy and total chaos while Joe and Lucas question whether high-level technicality and "musculature understanding" of an instrument necessarily result in a "good" song.


    The episode also features a deep dive into the history of the tritone, where the hosts debunk popular myths about the "Devil’s Tritone," and its supposed ban by the Catholic Church. While Joe and Lucas find common ground in admiring the band's dogged tenacity and singular vision, they remain sharply divided on the merits of specific releases—particularly 2007’s Minus the Herd. Tune in to find out which host found the experience to be a "slog," which one ended up finding "more and more to like," and why they ultimately conclude that this band might be "free jazz" for the metal world. #discussmetal
