Damsel in Distress
Wanda Luthman did an excellent job with this fantasy story for independent readers, grades three through five. The story of the little princess who yearned to be "free" from the safe confines of the palace walls has adventure and friendship at its core. The Lilac Princess gets her wish, with the help of her new found friend. She is able to sneak outside, but meets with a mean dragon. She is soon rescued by her friend, but they now have the mutual burden to forgive and to be forgiven. This story is packed with strong family values of love, loyalty, and forgiveness. Well written, with vocabulary that will enrich the reading experience.
Making choices!
The Lilac Princess, by Wanda Luthman, is a delightful tale of a curious princess, safeguarded and sheltered her whole life, who craves for her freedom and independence. Convinced she no longer needs protection, she ventures outside the safety of the castle walls with the aid of her new found friend, Dirk. Once she emerges, the adventure begins: all of the excitement she had anticipated and so much more! Just like in real life, where we encounter the unexpected and must make our choices, the Lilac Princess discovers much about herself and gains a new appreciation of what she once saw as confining. A rich story with multiple layers and lessons that leaves the reader inspired to choose wisely. Children will enjoy the story. Parents will appreciate the message!
