Leo Chor’s film How To Get A Boyfriend won the Porgrammers Prize at Film Invasion Los Angeles in 2019.  And I’m proud to say that it is part of season two of the Discover Indie Film TV Series.  Darkly funny with a wicked spirit, this the kind of film that we want people to see when they stream the DIF series on Amazon Prime Video.

Leo came by for a DIF interview and, no spoilers here, shared his story of how he went from high school in Thailand to film school in Los Angeles, eventually making How To Get A Boyfriend because, honestly, they wouldn’t let him graduate without it.

The film is right here for you to watch, although it would be super smart for you to watch it on Amazon Prime Video.  That way you see all the other great short films in the series, including the great I Got This that shares season 2 episode 2 with Leo’s film.

The first time that I saw Patrick Connolly’s The Creeping Ritual it basically kicked my ass.  How a short film could bring together spirituality, punk rock, coconut water, sex, the Devil and God into one story and have it entertain all the way through?  I don’t know how, but The Creeping Ritual does it.

I’m proud to say that The Creeping Ritual is part of season two of the Discover Indie Film TV Series.  It’s just the kind of innovative, original film that we want people to see when they stream the series on Amazon Prime Video.

The inclusion of his film in the series was a great time to bring Patrick in for a podcast interview.  I was really interested to learn more about him and the film, and he didn’t disappoint!

The indie feature Groupers won four awards at Film Invasion Los Angeles in 2019, so of course I had to pull filmmaker Anderson Cowan in for an interview.  And while he was here I had to have him answer the DIF 4Qs.  What you might not know is that Anderson has his own very popular podcast called The Film Vault where all he does is talk about movies, so you better believe his film picks for the DIF 4Qs are solid.

At Film Invasion Los Angeles in 2019, the feature film Groupers took home four awards; including Best Feature, Best Director, Best Lead Actress and Best Supporting Actor.  Writer/Director Anderson Cowan had a great screening at the festival and a great Q&A, so I knew he’d be a great filmmaker to interview for the podcast.

And September 2019 is a good time to interview him because Groupers is about to have a limited theatrical run.  Learn more about that at the Official Groupers Website.

We all know the limitations of low budget, independent film, but Groupers leaps right over all those limitations by delivering a fresh, original story in a stylish, inventive way.  But it also has substance;  substance without being preachy.  In fact, it has so much substance that during this interview I completely forgot to talk to him about all the impressive stylish elements he worked into the movie.

The short film I Got This took home three well-deserved awards from the 2018 Sherman Oaks Film Festival.  Filmmaker Erik Bork put together a wonderful film that typifies how a filmmaker can tell a complete, three-act story within the short film format and leave the audience delighted yet also wanting to see more.

The film won the Grand Jury Prize for Best Screenplay and the Filmmakers Award for Outstanding Film and Outstanding Director.  I learned a lot about Erik during this interview.  He has come to filmmaking via a very different path than many of the other filmmakers who have been featured on this podcast.  Listen to find out how.

Documentarian Brett Nicoletti won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sherman Oaks Film Festival for Best Documentary with his film The Running Man of Pasadena.  He gave a great interview about his film that you can listen to right here.  But it was really fun to have a documentarian answer the four questions instead of one of those run-of-the-mill narrative filmmakers.

The first night of the 2018 Sherman Oaks Film Festival started with a screening block that ended with the wonderful documentary The Running Man of Pasadena.  We were excited to have the filmmakers and the movie’s subject in attendance!
