    Title: Bad Boy
    Author: Walter Dean Myers
    Narrator: Joe Morton
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 4 hrs and 56 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 09-02-05
    Publisher: HarperAudio
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 41 votes
Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Personal Memoirs
    Publisher's Summary:
Into a memoir that is gripping, funny, heartbreaking, and unforgettable, Walter Dean Myers richly weaves the details of his Harlem childhood in the 1940s and 1950s: a loving home life with his adopted parents, Bible school, street games, and the vitality of his neighborhood. Although Walter spent much of his time either getting into trouble or on the basketball court, secretly he was a voracious reader and an aspiring writer. But as his prospects for a successful future diminished, the values he had been taught at home, in school, and in his community seemed worthless, and he turned to the streets and his books for comfort. Here in his own words is the story of one of the strongest voices in children's and young adult literature today.

    Tough times
What did you love best about Bad Boy?
The part I loved the most was that Myers never made excuses for the choices that he made. Rather he shares his regrets.
Would you recommend Bad Boy to your friends? Why or why not?
Yes I would recommend the book. It is an autobiography of famed writer who lived through the Civil Rights movement. He shares his struggles, but doesn't make excuses.
What about Joe Mortons performance did you like?
He had nice phrasing, pace, & expression.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No. It was difficult to follow at first.
    Any additional comments?
I didn't like the random music that played at random points in the reading. It may have been better if it was played at the end of chapters instead.
This is nothing like the really book.
This book is not good at all. It is not as good as the real one
    Hard to follow
This book wasnt for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
The story is wonderful, but the recording keeps skipping. This makes it hard to follow the story.
    Love it
best book ever I wold read this over and over again strongly suggest this book
    Chapters 1 and 2 MIA
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
LOVE THIS BOOK, it's unfortunate that chapters 1 and 2 are missing from the audio. LAME!

    Title: E=mc2
Subtitle: A Biography of the World's Most Famous Equation
    Author: David Bodanis
    Narrator: Dan Cashman
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 6 hrs and 39 mins
    Language: English

    Publisher: Random House Audio

Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Personal Memoirs
    Publisher's Summary:
Generations have grown up knowing that the equation E=mc2 changed the shape of our world, but never understanding what it actually means and why it was so significant. Here, Bodanis writes the "biography" of this great discovery and turns a seemingly impenetrable theory into a dramatic and accessible human achievement. Bodanis begins by introducing the science and scientists forming the backdrop to Einstein's discovery. Having demystified the equation, he explains its science and brings it to life; making clear the astonishing array of discoveries and consequences it made possible and its impact on our daily lives. At last, the masses can understand that Einstein did nothing less than open the door to the inner structure of the universe.

    Critic Reviews:
"It's a well-known equation, yet who but physicists really understand E=mc2? Bodanis rescues the masses from ignorance in an entertaining story about Einstein's formulation of the equation in 1905 and its association ever after with relativity and nuclear energy." (Booklist)

    Very Well Done
"Audio Publishers, Please Take Note!" First, I agree with others that this book is an excellent introduction to aspects of modern physics. Instead of beginning with relativity, it uses very interesting historical episodes to place Einstein's famous formula within the larger history of the science of energy and mass, which makes a lot of sense. But I am writing mainly to note the reading, which should be a model for other publishers. Far too many Audible books are read by professionals at top speed or with histrionic overacting. This casually paced, natural reading is a tremendous aid in comprehension. Today's "media professionals" simply do not trust the written word and feel they must "add value" with dramatic antics, youthful over-enthusiasm, and the highest possible number words per second. Like restaurants that insist on cranking up the music they are terrified that someone might get bored. Some topics require a bit of chewy comprehension and this reading sets an ideal standard for such.
    A good introduction
A good introduction to that famous formula and related concepts. After listening to this, if you want more science for the layman you want to listen to the excellent "The Fabric of the Cosmos".
    Great book!
I was amazed at how interesting the author could make this topic. Because you are reading this, you are interested in the subject; listen to this book...period! You'll not regret it.
    Get this!
Outstanding. Spellbinding. Terrific narrator and a book that combines the best in biography and history with the most compelling of basic physics. This book humanizes the equation and revited this listener.
    Excellent book for us non-scientists
This is a great book for understanding not only the significance of E=MC2, but also in understanding the discoveries in the areas of energy, mass and the speed of light that led up to the development of the theory of relativity. Very interesting stuff! I would also agree with one of the other reviewers that the stories about the race to make the atomic bomb were quite facinating. Never realized how close the Nazis were to beating us to the punch.

    It touched my heart
I'm an Anglo who teaches high school Spanish in a suburb of Houston. I listen to these stories for entertainment and to improve my Spanish.
This story was written in very comprehensible Spanish and read by a good reader. Most important, the story was sensational! I could visualize the two boys waving to the train conductor. I could imagine the family's anguish when the baby got sick. It was a very touching story. I listened to it twice.
    Simple, engaging language
I really liked this book. It's simple, but I found it to be very compelling. I appreciated his lack of drama. When you've finished one of the chapters you become aware that you just read something very moving, but that it wasn't "in your face". He doesn't use dramatic adjectives to tell the story. He doesn't use excessive literary devices. He just tells the story, and let's the story carry itself. I kept trying to understand why the story was so compelling to me because the author doesn't try to introduce drama or suspense as a literary device. The book is also good for an intermediate student of Spanish.
    Incredible Story!
Where does Cajas de Carton rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
Absolutely loved this book! It was assigned reading in my conversational Spanish class and I could not put it down. I read it numerous times and then decided to purchase it on audible to help improve my Spanish listening comprehension. The narrator is wonderful for a beginning Spanish speaker because he doesn't speak too fast. The story of Francisco's life is very moving and will definitely make you rethink the illegal immigration situation in this country. I highly recommend this book as well as his next 2 books which follow his life through graduation from college.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Cajas de Carton?
When his sister used his pennies to buy gum and then their house burned down. My heart just ached for him and his family.
    Pense que estaba mas interesante!!!
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
    no del todo
How did the narrator detract from the book?
    muy mal narrado
Do you think Cajas de Carton needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
    no a mi parecer
    Any additional comments?
es una triste historia ,pero tan mal narrada q la vuelve tediosa
    Diferente
Definitivamente diferente. Escrita desde el punto de vista de un nino. Es una historia ingenua y triste pero sincera.

His goal is to document the training of America's chefs from the first classroom to the Culinary's final kitchen, the American Bounty Restaurant. The result becomes more than a rote reportage of a school for cooks. Interesting subject, terrible presentation.
The subject mater of the audiobook, a journalist going through culinary school, is very interesting. However the narrator, as most of the other reviewers have pointed out, makes it very difficult for this audiobook to be engaging. I listen to audiobooks as I'm driving long distances to try to keep myself awake, alert, and entertained. I found myself being droned to boredom by the narrator's monotone, seeming lack of interest, and apparent lack of knowledge of the subject matter.
All the "characters" sounded the same. While many audiobook performers create different "voices" for different characters, this presenter made no effort to differentiate one character from another, which made it very difficult to keep track of who was "talking".
I was also very surprised at the careless production. Again, as other reviewers pointed out, there were awkward pauses, missed edits, and a silted pace in parts. What were the producers and editors doing the whole time, eating??
With a better narrator, this could have been a very engaging audiobook.
    Once More with Feeling
This is the most badly read audiobook I've ever heard. The reader is stilted, lacks feel for the material, and barely changes intonation ever.
    Great book, terrible reader
I really enjoyed the content of the book. The reader destroyed some pretty simple names that erode my enjoyment of the book. They grate on my nerves, like his pronunciation of the word shallots. I love Ruhlman's books, this is no exception. I would prefer to read this text.
    Be careful...
I quite enjoyed hearing all the little details that go into the making of a chef at the CIA but I don't think it is for everyone. Even if you think you are interested please listen to the preview as I had a difficult time listening to the narrator. VERY DRY, took me a couple of hours to get passed the narrators monotone emotionless voice.
    Excellent book, mediocre recording
I read the hardcover version of this a few years ago, and loved it. I'm enjoying listening to it, but the recording itself can be a little irritating. Would have been much better if Ruhlman himself would have recorded it. This particular narrator mispronounces words a lot, and even pronounced the same word two different ways within a few seconds. There are some strange gaps in the recording, too, which are an editing problem, not a narrating problem. This book and its author are widely respected among professionals, and I'm disappointed that more care was not taken in its presentation.

    All But My Life
I hesitated for over a year from writing a review of Gerda Weissmann Klein's -All But My Life- for the strange but simple reason that this book is my favorite book of the Holocaust and I simply could not put the phrase -favorite book of the holocaust- into print. The Holocaust is something beyond ordinary human experience and I lack the proper means to express the gravity with which I feel about it. I have listen to most everything Audible has on Holocaust literature: Night, Day, The Nazi Officer's Wife, Defying Hitler, Schindler's List, Anne Frank, and have read many more. Gerda's story appeals to me precisely because I cannot relate to her. She has a purity of soul and a set of survivor skills that I simply do not have. It also helps that she was rescued and had a good life in America after the war. Anything positive in these accounts is very welcome indeed to a reader. A word to the wise, at any one time, be careful how much Holocaust literature you read. Regarding the narration, I did not require authentic European accents or pronunciations, only that I understood what was being said, in English, and the narrator provided this in a dignified and attractive style. MB
    Compelling listen, lest we forget!!
Compelling listen, excellently written, and superbly narrated. My parents lived through the holocaust and this book made me feel what my mother must have gone through. Grace Conlin does a superb rendition. Her voice is calm and controlled with the right touch of emotion so you believe that you are there through Gerda Weissmans eyes. I met and heard Gerda Weissmann, some time after she wrote this book, and although Mrs. Weissmann Klein has a mild European accent Grace Conlin manages to reflect her demeanor and outlook. I recommend it to everyone lest we forget.
    One of the best...
This is an incredibly well written book. Gerda Weissmann Klein tells her story with such simple words and heartfelt honesty, that I often felt overwhelmed by the clarity of her descriptions, and the hopelessness of her situation. Just as heart-wrenching as the "Diary of Anne Frank," Mrs. Klein's story is one that I will ponder and reflect on for the rest of my life. After reading this, how any of us would ever again indulge in any form of prejudice, is truly confounding.
I found Grace Conlin's dignified reading perfectly suited to the author's character.
    Unforgettable
Excellent. This book, in my mind, seemed much longer than 10 hours. That is to say that listening to it was a deeply meaningful experience. I had dreams about it later. The narrator's voice was resonant and somber--I'm surprised that some readers didn't like it.

    Interesting but disjointed
This book about animals in Yellowstone seems to be composed of a series of short reports on animal behavior from four or five people. The chapters, organized by animal, tend to be repetitious, especially the first chapter on bears. Still, it's an interesting read, especially if you are a hiker looking for information on animal behavior around humans. My main complaint is that it needs a good editor.
Animal Personalities, the Majesty of Yellowstone
If you could sum up Dangerous Beauty in three words, what would they be?
    Yellowstone Life Cycles
What did you like best about this story?
The stories of life in Yellowstone National Park. The personalities of the bears and other animals, the interaction of Nature, Wildlife, the Park Service and visitors. Makes me want to be there too!
    Which scene was your favorite?
The first story of Scarface, then the discovery of familial connections!
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It made me appreciate our National Parks, and how lucky we are to have them. And our obligation to preserve them for generations to come.
    Any additional comments?
In my opinion, this Audible work is worth the credit and my listening time. It is certainly worth many relistenings!

An Awesome nature book, so wonderful!
What made the experience of listening to Dangerous Beauty the most enjoyable?
Dangerous Beauty: Stories from the Wilds of Yellowstone by Carolyn Jourdan and Sandy Sisti is an outstanding nature book that toyed with all my emotions. One minute I am smiling, another minute I am angry, and the next I am near tears. I had all sorts of emotions in-between too. This book is filled with a variety of great stories of the many awesome animals and beautiful nature itself of Yellowstone. The love of this magnificent place shines through with each story, the love for the animals, the plants, the land, and their jobs. I enjoyed this book so much, I didn't want the book to end. I was given an audio book to listen to by the publishers. The narrator had a calm and perfect voice for this book, and added plus to an already great book. The review is voluntary. I hope everyone has a chance to read this charming, delightful book.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    I did!

My first introduction to the bear books was 'The Bear In The Back Seat' by Kim DeLozier. It was similar to this as it was experiences of park rangers, but I thought it was far funnier.

Beth is a spirited woman with an intellectual disability who spends nearly every day riding the buses in her Pennsylvania city. The drivers, a lively group, are her mentors; her fellow passengers are her community. Beth, who lives independently and has a boyfriend, is a joyful, endearing, and feisty individual. Her single sister, Rachel, a writer and professor, hides her emotional isolation and loneliness behind a driven lifestyle that keeps her "hyperbusy, hypercritical, hyperventilating." When Beth asks Rachel to accompany her on the buses for one year, they take a transcendent journey that changes Rachel's life in incredible ways, leads her to accept her sister at long last-and teaches her to slow down and enjoy the ride.
Rachel Simon's memoir Riding the Bus with My Sister was made into a television movie starring Rosie O'Donnell and Andie McDowell, directed by Anjelica Huston.

True story unlike most others! Fascinating!
Would you listen to Riding the Bus with My Sister again? Why?
Probably not, simply because I "got it" the first time around. The personality of "my sister", Beth, was fine for one listen, but I do not think I would enjoy it for a second listen. The narration was so realistic that I experienced Beth as somewhat obnoxious- not her personality, but her vocal inflections. So once was enough. But once was great!
What was one of the most memorable moments of Riding the Bus with My Sister?
The revelations shared by some of the bus drivers were eye-opening. The real-life interactions and reactions of people to Beth and Beth's indomitable spirit were so very interesting.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
This book was fascinating. I always wanted to know, "what happens next", and so I listened as often as I could. It is a human life adventure - and true! Rachel has a unique ability as a writer to reconstruct situations from her memories in such a way that I felt like I was there watching them happen. Nothing seemed to be left out. (I can't even do that for myself with most of my own memories!)
    Any additional comments?
This book opened up for me the world of the "mentally retarded" adult in a new way. Rachel's narration was excellent. I especially enjoyed the true life stories that were shared about the various characters in addition to her sister. Rachel's own journey, really interested me and helped me see some things differently in my own life!
    nice story
I love the fact that the author was who narrated this audiobook. Besides it is a great story.
The book was good but the narrator (author) bad!
This book wasnt for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
I enjoyed the story but the narrator really detracted. Author's shouldn't narrate their own books.
    Ground-breaking
As the parent of a child with disabilities, I loved the authors detailed look not only at the many layers within her sister but of the importance of those around her.

Faith. Trust. Triumph. "I trust Roselle with my life, every day. She trusts me to direct her. And today is no different, except the stakes are higher."
    &Michael Hingson
First came the boom - the loud, deep, unapologetic bellow that seemed to erupt from the very core of the earth. Eerily, the majestic high-rise slowly leaned to the south. On the 78th floor of the World Trade Centers north tower, no alarms sounded, and no one knew what had just happened at 8:46 a.m. that morning, September 11, 2001 - which should have been a normal workday for thousands of people. All that was known to the people inside was what they could see from the windows: smoke and fire and millions of pieces of burning paper and other debris falling through the air.
Blind since birth, Michael couldnt see a thing, but he could hear the sounds of shattering glass, falling debris, and terrified people flooding around him and his guide dog, Roselle. However, Roselle sat calmly beside him. In that moment, Michael chose to trust Roselles judgment and not to panic. They were a team.
Thunder Dog allows you entry into the isolated, fume-filled chamber of stairwell B to experience survival through the eyes of a blind man and his beloved guide dog. Live each moment from the second a Boeing 767 hits the north tower, to the harrowing stairwell escape, to dodging death a second time as both towers collapse into the earth. Its the 9/11 story that will forever change your spirit and your perspective.
Thunder Dog illuminates Hingsons lifelong determination to achieve parity in a sighted world, and how the rare trust between a man and his guide dog can inspire an unshakable faith in each one of us.

9/11 and People who are blind
I havent read anything about the survivors of 9/11 this is the first and, as a result, I have a couple more audible books to listen to -- on the subject..(I just listened to Angel in the Rubble, which was also worthwhile).
Thunder Dog was a great story -- I recommend it highly. Its two-fold in that the reader also has the opportunity to be educated about people who are blind this was a major portion of the book, interspersed, and well worth it for that reason.
I dont know any blind people personally except for one recent member who joined my gym last year. He comes in with his guide dog while he exercises. I see him walking to and from the gym location and, I used to think how difficult that must be to be walking out on the busy streets alone with the dog. When you read this book, you will come away with a very clear understanding about the misconceptionis most of us have about the unsighted. Very revealing and I loved it. The story about his escape from the World Trade Center on 9/11 with his guide dog is great reading.
    Fabulous Book
This is my first "audible" book review. Thunder Dog is so good that I felt compelled to write about it and tell others. I initially ordered it because of the "handsome" labrador on the cover. Having two labs of my own I am drawn to books about dogs. But this book is so much more. It is a book about faith, about teamwork, about life in general. It is educational. If an audible book can be a page turner, it is that too.

    Publisher's Summary:
In the heart of America, a metropolis is quietly destroying itself. Detroit, once the richest city in the nation, is now its poorest. Once the vanguard of Americas machine age - mass production, automobiles, and blue-collar jobs - Detroit is now Americas capital for unemployment, illiteracy, foreclosure, and dropouts.
With the steel-eyed reportage that has become his trademark and the righteous indignation that only a native son can possess, journalist Charlie LeDuff sets out to uncover what has brought low this once-vibrant city, his city. In doing so, he uncovers the deeply human drama of a city filled with some of the strongest and strangest people our country has to offer.
    Critic Reviews:
"Full of both literary grace and hard-won world-weariness...Iggy Pop meets Jim Carroll and Charles Bukowski." (Kirkus)
