Very good

Very good explanation and extremely detailed drawings of a construction project and the intricacies of building, each page featuring a close up of a portion of the project and work vehicles. It is similar to a Where's Waldo format from years ago (I am the Grammy now) and our 2.5 year old grandson enjoys showing me a "funny part" like a banana peel dropped in the road, a worker tripping over paint bucket, or one who is dangling precariously while working. Adaptable to reading for a young boy who loves all things construction as well as a 6 year old who grasps advanced concepts.

Great overview of the steps that go into building a house

This is a great explanation of the steps that go into building a house. Good for any kid who is obsessed with construction or whose family is getting ready to build. It's geared toward kids, but an adult can learn a thing or two from it as well.

Not exactly riveting, yet still a very wonderful book for the younger crowd..

I would recommend this for the 8 and under crowd. An 8 year old may find the style a bit simple but the words and definitions of the workers involved will be enough to suit their fancy. The 5/6 and under crowd will probably need a little help with the longer job titles and whatnot. However, I can really see this book as being an excellent resource for a family to read together with the smaller kiddos if they are building or renovating a house. Also, the budding builders will find this a lot of fun too and I'm sure there will be a segment of children that reread this one over and over again.

Amazing step by step process, using real vocabulary of house-building! Adults will learn things, too! :) Beautiful illustrations!

The perfect amount of information

Since my daughter started to ask "why" and "how" so much more these days, I have found myself in what I consider the difficult position of reducing my wordiness in order to give explanations. I read to my daughter every day and have started to include some non-fiction to address this. This book and others by the author are a great solution for connecting with young readers and those not reading yet. Gail Gibbons provides a succinct step-by-step discussion of the process of house building without oversimplified or complicated information. Her other books are just as concise and inviting. I find so many other non-fiction children's books too wordy and too confusing to follow. Such books detract from their original purpose, and my daughter is easily distracted. However, she chooses Gibbon's books over and over and gets excited about being able to explain the process back to me in her own way-- that's the ultimate test. This book definitely passes!

Thought Provoking

Sometimes a story is what you need to stop and remember many things in life that are important and many things we forget to remember the value of patience, gratitude and helping each other,

Well, Of Course Five Stars!

Five stars for a story that I've known and loved since childhood -- now some seventy years gone by. "The Tailor of Gloucester" fits in quite nicely with the other "Christmas Classics:" Dickens' " Christmas Carol," and "Mr. Pickwick's Christmas;" O. Henry's "Gift of the Magi;" and van Dyke's "The Story of The Other Wiseman."

Compared to my eighty-something years old copy, the binding appears to be equal, if somewhat different. The color plates -- remade, I am given to understand -- are superb.

I bought this as a Christmas present. Do your Christmas shopping early!

My kids enjoy this story

My kids really enjoy any story from Beatrix Potter, which is fine by me because I loved her stories as a child. Sure this version of the story for Kindle is not illustrated, so I read the story to my kids at bed time and told them to close their eyes and use their imagination. There is another version of the story for Kindle that you can get for around $6, but the free version works just fine. I am a Christian mommy who is very picky at what I let my kids read/hear/watch and this is a very appropriate book for our standards.

(By the way, my little ones are 4 yrs, and 2 yrs in case you were curious what age group I was reading to)

A Charming Mousetale!

In our fast-moving, attention-deficient world, Potter's charming mousetale is an oasis of gentle story-telling and art.. This is a staight-forward photographic reproduction of the pages of the 1903 edition. One can imagine the lovely original but lacking that, it is good to, at least, have this. Especially wonderful are the songs of the birds and bats on Christmas Day and, of course, of the mice, themselves as they work. I believe a few may have also worked on a garment for "Cinderelly"!

Grandchildren love it! Younger than 2 years won't sit still for the whole book. However, they will want you to read it to them in abbreviated form again and again. Older children (3-7 yrs) enjoy it. Especially when you change voices when reading the characters words.
