Enjoyable

This was a fun, light read with a nice lesson behind the primary story. Would highly recommend for high schoolers or young adults.

Great Book

this is a fun book for anyone who has a boy 11 to 14 that does not care to read.

It's about a 14 year-old boy, who finds a way to make money and meet girls.

The family situations are very real, and the thought process is like a teenager.

The book is easy to read, good story line, about 110 pages.

We have not finished the book yet, but it gets you interested right from the start

of the book....

a very good book

"Dog Walker" is a story about a boy and his friends, dogs, and girls. Turk (the boy) has to walk his dad's boss' dog after his parents take care of her all night. When he meets up with his friend Leo, two girls come up and tell him how cute the dog is. After that he decides to open a dog-walking business to meet girls and make cash. He meets with his friends and they join the business too.

There are two rules. No one can tell anyone about the business and Turk gets half the money. Since no one wants to walk the ugly or super wild dogs, Turk gets stuck with them. When he's on a walk, he meets a girl named Carly that he has known since the fourth-grade. She tells him that she's going away for the weekend and she asks him to look after her dog. He says ok, but then the next day he realizes that one of his workers is sick and everyone else is busy. Then he decides that he and his best friend can take care of three dogs at his place. When he comes back with one of the dogs, he realizes that someone took the dog that Carly owns when he was supposed to take care of him. Then he takes one of the dogs with him and goes out to find the dog. After an hour or two of searching, he gives up. Does he ever find Carly's dog? I'll let you figure out what happens next when you read "Dog Walker," which is a very good book that I would suggest to kids ten and up who like dogs. It is also good for kids that don't like very big books because it only has about 100 pages.

Book received free of charge.

What do you get when you mix boys, dogs, and girls?

Turk's mom reads parenting magazines. Turk's mom loves their suggestions. Turk's mom insists on family nights and moments otherwise known as "quality time." In Canadian author Karen Spafford-Fitz's debut novel Dog Walker, Turk, otherwise known as Winston Turkington, is broke and allergic to his own sweat. His parents want him to -- gasp -- earn his money and he finds himself walking a dog.

Turk discovers a new cash flow equation: dogs plus girls equal new opportunity. Realization: cash is on the way.

Publisher's Summary:

Bex has explored almost every abandoned building and tunnel in the city. He's into urban exploration - going where he's not supposed to go. Bex has always done it just for fun and bragging rights, taking nothing but pictures and leaving nothing but footprints. But that changes when a new kid arrives at school. Kieran is edgy, dangerous and into urban exploration as well. Together, they start pushing each other to radical extremes. When Kieran pitches a plan that involves taking more than just pictures, Bex has a decision to make. Where will he draw the line, and how far will he follow Kieran?

Urban Exploration for Fun and Revenge...

The teens in this novel engage in some dangerous night time business-breaking into locked and abandoned buildings-just because they can. It's nothing they can't handle until the new student arrives at school and ups the risk level. He's out for revenge but they don't know it.

This is good steady action that puts the lead character Bex into a difficult dilemma and makes him face his value system to see just how far he will bend it.

I read this in one enthralled sitting. Sean Rodman's debut novel is a sure-fire winner.

Another winner from Orca Book Publishers

Thanks to Puget Sound Council for providing this book for review. Bex gets into (breaks into) old buildings, not to steal things, but just for the thrill of doing it, and then posts photos of his conquests in a blog. When Kiernan arrives at school and shows an interest in joining him, Bex is pleased but soon learns that the new guy has a different agenda, one which could put Bex in danger. This Orca Soundings book will appeal to teens who want action and suspense in their stories. There is a small amount of romance as well. The vocabulary works well with teens reading below grade level

Zusammenfassung des Herausgebers:

Was geht da vor?

Title: Hate Is Such a Strong Word

Author: Sarah Ayoub

Narrator: Sarah Ayoub

Format: Unabridged

Length: 6 hrs and 36 mins

Language: English

Release date: 11-29-16

Publisher: Bolinda Publishing Pty Ltd

Genres: Teens, Fiction & Literature

Publisher's Summary:

In the vein of Does My Hair Look Big In This and Looking for Alibrandi, Hate is Such a Strong Word is the story of a 17-year-old girl caught between two cultures, Lebanese and Anglo Australian.

Seventeen-year-old Sophie hates Monday mornings, socks worn with sandals and having to strategise like she's a battle sergeant every time she asks her parents if she can go out. But she especially hates being stereotyped because she's Lebanese. When New Guy, Shehadie Goldsmith, is alienated at her Lebanese school because his dad's Australian, she hates the way it makes her feel. Like she's just as prejudiced as everyone else. Like she could make a difference if she stopped pretending she's invisible. Like the attraction between them might be too strong to fight.... But hate is such a strong word....

Can Sophie find the strength to speak out - even if it means going against everything she's been brought up to believe? A brilliant debut novel about identity, love, culture and finding your place.

Members Reviews:

Family, friends and finding yourself

Racial riots and the arrival of an outsider forces a 1st generation Australian girl to figure out what she really believes in as she struggles to balance Australian and Lebanese culture and expectations. Comparable to Melina Marchetta's "Looking For Alibrandi" - although perhaps with a little less heart.

Great novel especially for teens

Great novel especially for teens. Along the lines of Looking for Alibrandi. Appealing, likeable characters with accessible themes and realistic dialogue.

Racism, Stereotyping, and Hummus

The book! AWESOME. I loved it! I was totally hooked from page one, where Sophie was strategizing how to convince her dad to let her go out with her friends. It would be "unsafe" and Lebanese women should "stay at home". Basically, Sophie can't do anything. She can't have sleepovers, she can't go out with her friends, she can't walk to school, nope. Naught. Why? Because good Lebanese women DON'T (you could get raped or murdered or lost or something). Sophie's family might be in Australia, but they live in a close-knit Lebanese community. They speak Arabic at home, they go to a Lebanese/Christian school - basically EVERYTHING THAT IS GOOD IS LEBANESE.

I have to hand it to the author: she is an amazing writer. I LOVE her voice, her style, everything. And I love how she approached writing this book. It has such a strong, clear message, but it never once felt preachy.

Sophie's family is really well-written. Okay, so her dad is a control freak (Sophie calls him Dictator Dad), so I expected him to be horrible and scary. He's definitely sexist (he doesn't make her little brother babysit because it's a "woman's job") and he's over-the-top protective. But he's nice. He really loves his daughters and he wants to keep them safe. His mindset is back in Lebanon, and he keeps the culture fresh. But he wasn't an orge. I really appreciated that. I also loved how the mother wasn't put out as a whimpering woman who did what her husband said out of fear. No. It was out of LOVE. The family was loving and close-knit, and they had their issues (doesn't everyone?) but it was presented fairly.

Sophie's character was awesome too.

Critic Reviews:

-- Sjovforbrn.dk
