~~ A modern day trip, the old fashioned way ~~
Taking a trip back in time? Nope! The original book is the story of Rinker and his brother, Nick, as they relive the journey of the Oregon Trail taken by those in the 19th century. Starting in Kansas in June 2011, the two brothers followed one of the original trails in a traditional mule-drawn wagon. Although Nick was very knowledgeable about wagons and mules, he chose to keep quiet when he saw some problems with the wagon that Rinker had purchased. Only traveling 20 miles a day, this Instaread summary is absolutely fascinating.
The 'Character Analysis' and 'Character Relationships' sections along with some of the themes discuss the relationship between the two brothers and how they changed through the trip. Tom, the boys' father, although deceased played an important role as many memories surfaced on the trip and Rinker came to a better understanding of who his father really was. Some of the other themes are:
>>> Character of America
>>> Oregon Trail as Driver of American History and Economics
Believe it or not, crystal meth is even mentioned in this book! Find out why! What is the definition of a pioneer?
I LOVED this summary. It provides you with great insight into the original book but in a shorter period of time. Highly recommended. Book provided in exchange for an honest review. Thanks, Liz
A deeper look into The Oregon Trail
This isn't the type of summary & analysis where it just TELLS the reader blankly what has happened, instead it guides the reader through each chapter, helping give a deeper look into a great work without giving away everything and (what I consider to be) cheating the reader of the potential value and experience that can be gained from the The Oregon Trail. Admittedly, I do think that it could be a bit longer, but that ultimately doesn't belittle my opinion of the S&A.
Take a short journey before paying for the whole trip.
