Publisher's Summary:
Theres more to Frank than meets the eyeA quirky, witty and utterly brilliant new picture book from the creator of Marshall Armstrong is New to our School. Frank is your typical grandfather, but no one has a grandfather like him. If you had to stand up and talk, for one whole minute, about a member of your family, who would you pick? Everyone else chooses really cool people, like Toms Uncle Marlon who plays drums in a band, or Hannahs mum with her company car. But theres nothing cool about grandfather Frank or is there? In this hilarious, wise and heart-warming story, awesome new picture book talent David Mackintosh shows with a supreme lightness of touch just how much the older generation has to teach us, and how much fun learning from them can be.
Critic Reviews:
features a wonderfully eccentric title character. Utterly unpredictable from one page to the next, this is a seriously funny book. (The Independent on Sunday)
A sophisticated combination of faux-naïve pencil drawing, collage and varied layouts makes David Mackintoshs Marshall Armstrong is New to Our School striking. (Nicolette Jones, Sunday Times Culture)
a beautifully illustrated first book from the writer and illustrator David Mackintosh. (Daisy Bridgewater, Telegraph Magazine)
Even very young readers will enjoy how Mackintoshs beautifully underplayed text and genial drawings manage to be empathic to both the leery narrator and the serenely outré object of his misapprehension. Without a whiff of pedantry, Mackintosh skillfully dismantles the narrators defenses and bonds him to Marshall Armstrong, all the while proving that fun doesnt always fit within the confines of ones comfort zone. (Publishers Weekly)
I think this book is fantastic because I can read it myself and I love the pictures and the way it looks. The story is really, really good and fantastic because it's strange and weird. (Childs review on the Guardians childrens book site.)

Grandpa Frank wins em over!
A little boy [no name ever given] is required to bring someone to school for show and tell, but he must also talk about them for ONE WHOLE MINUTE first. Everyone in his family declines except for his crotchety old Grandpa "FRANK". But the little boy is unsure about this as he thinks all the other kids have way more interesting people to bring and talk about. But Frank and his stories about the way things used to be and his exploits saves the day and he and little boy become heroes.
Simply a cute little book with great illustrations and a gift that I'm sure most grandpas and grandmas would love to bequeath to their grandchildren, as I know I did. A nice change of pace from the average kid's book.
I am a sucker for a good Kid's book
I am a sucker for a good Kid's book. I actually purchased this for my staff at a retirement community. It speaks volumes to how we should learn and know who the seniors around us are. Amazing people. With amazing lives.
