This audiobook is in Italian.

Title: Values for a New Millennium Subtitle: Activating the Natural Law to Reduce Violence, Revitalize Our Schools, and Promote Cross-Cultural Harmony Author: Robert Humphrey Narrator: Geoff Metcalf Format: Unabridged Length: 13 hrs and 45 mins Language: English Release date: 09-30-15 Publisher: Resolution Group International Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 3 votes Genres: Nonfiction, Philosophy Publisher's Summary: Robert L. Humphrey was an Iwo Jima veteran, a Harvard graduate, and a cross-cultural conflict resolution specialist during the Cold War. He proposed the dual life value theory of human nature. From the experiences of childhood in the Great Depression, trips as a teenager in the Panamanian Merchant Marines, national-class boxing, the awe-inspiring sights of selfless sacrifice on Iwo Jima, and finally 15 years in overseas ideological warfare, Humphrey observed that universal values exist and ultimately control human behavior. Humphrey is a graduate of Wisconsin University, Harvard Law School, and the Fletcher School of Diplomacy. At the beginning of the Cold War, he left a teaching position at MIT to help lead the struggle against Communism. Finding that US education was contributing to rather than reducing American overseas problems, he developed a new leadership approach that overcame "ugly American" syndrome among hundreds of thousands in crucial third world areas. More recently his methodology won commendations for educating the alleged uneducable: Mexican American street-gang youths in Southern California and Canadian native teenage dropouts. Until Communism's fall, Humphrey kept his new methods confidential. Those methods are significant: (1) From his experiences with young infantrymen in heavy combat and with the peasants in many villages of the world, he perceived humankind's basic goodness that philosophers have missed or underrated. (2) In place of compartmentalized, primarily mental education, Humphrey has developed a human-nature-guided (moral, physical, artistic, mental) approach.

  • From Passion to Peace Audiobook by James Allen
Please visit https://fashabooks.com/aff/fashabooks/1036 to download full audiobooks of your choice for free. Title: From Passion to Peace Author: James Allen Narrator: Denis Daly Format: Unabridged Length: 53 mins Language: English Release date: 06-23-15 Publisher: Spoken Realms Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 1 votes Genres: Nonfiction, Philosophy Publisher's Summary: Two themes that recur very frequently in the works of James Allen are passion and purity. However, unlike many writers on moral discipline, the author regards purity as the natural state of man, which has been obscured by passionate attachment to external artefacts. Once the waves of passion are stilled, attachment falls away, allowing the seeker to attain a transcendent purity of vision and thus behold the reality that underlies the illusion of change. In the introduction the author writes: "The first three parts of this book, Passion, Aspiration, and Temptation, represent the common human life, with its passion, pathos, and tragedy. The last three parts, Transcendence, Beatitude, and Peace, represents the Divine Life - calm, wise and beautiful - of the sage and Savior. The middle part, Transmutation, is the transitional stage between the two; it is the alchemic process linking the divine with the human life. Discipline, denial, and renunciation do not constitute the Divine State; they are only the means by which it is attained. The Divine Life is established in that Perfect Knowledge which bestows Perfect Peace."

  • Freedom Regained Audiobook by Julian Baggini

Title: Freedom Regained Subtitle: The Possibility of Free Will Author: Julian Baggini Narrator: Barnaby Edwards Format: Unabridged Length: 8 hrs and 13 mins Language: English Release date: 06-18-15 Publisher: Audible Studios Ratings: 3 of 5 out of 1 votes Genres: Nonfiction, Philosophy Publisher's Summary: Do we have free will? It's a question that has puzzled philosophers and theologians for centuries and feeds into numerous political, social, and personal concerns. Are we products of our culture or free agents within it? How much responsibility should we take for our actions? Are our neural pathways fixed early on by a mixture of nature and nurture, or is the possibility of comprehensive, intentional psychological change always open to us? What role do our brains play in the construction of free will, and how much scientific evidence is there for the existence of it? What exactly are we talking about when we talk about 'freedom' anyway? In this cogent and compelling book, Julian Baggini explores the concept of free will from every angle, blending philosophy, neuroscience, sociology and cognitive science. Freedom Regained brings the issues raised by the possibilities - and denials - of free will to vivid life, drawing on scientific research and fascinating encounters with expert witnesses, from artists to addicts, prisoners to dissidents. Contemporary thinking tells us that free will is an illusion, and Baggini challenges this position, providing instead a new, more positive understanding of our sense of personal freedom: a freedom worth having. Julian Baggini's books include The Ego Trick, Welcome to Everytown, What's It All About? - Philosophy and the Meaning of Life and The Pig That Wants to be Eaten, all published by Granta Books. He writes for several newspapers and magazines and is cofounder of The Philosophers' Magazine. Critic Reviews: "An excellent book... It [does for freedom] just what Dawkins does with God."
