    Publisher's Summary:
A stunning new novel - full of wit and warmth - from the bestselling author of The Mango Season.
In trendy Silicon Valley, Priya has everything she needs - a loving husband, a career, and a home - but the one thing she wants most is the child she's unable to have. In a Southern Indian village, Asha doesn't have much - raising two children in a tiny hut, she and her husband can barely keep a tin roof over their heads - but she wants a better education for her gifted son. Pressured by her family, Asha reluctantly checks into the Happy Mothers House: a baby farm where she can rent her only asset - her womb - to a childless couple overseas. To the dismay of friends and family, Priya places her faith in a woman she's never met to make her dreams of motherhood come true.
Together, the two women discover the best and the worst that India's rising surrogacy industry has to offer, bridging continents and cultures to bring a new life into the world - and renewed hope to each other.

    wanted more
I knew it was the logical endong, but I wanted to know what became of Ausha' little boy as he grew up and I wanted an across the miles friendship to develop. The narration was superior to most audio books I have listened to... I could immediately tell by each character's voice who was speaking. The a uthor shows deep empathy for all involved in surrogacy.
    Good, But Not Great
Was hoping for a deeper story, but did show how these women at the House For Happy Mothers were exploited. Very sad that they all chose to be surrogates solely for the money, and wanted to do it numerous times to better their families' lives. Difficult for me to understand how the doctor at the clinic could be so self serving, as to profit from them, and even encourage them to become surrogates over and over again. Excellent narration.
More sad than Happy to me
I like the Narrator. The story can make you cry if you have a bleeding hearty like me.
    Loved it!
I really loved the narrator, her voice was so perfect for the story, and so soothing. She really brought the story to life, from the images in India to California and the inner turmoil within Pria and Asha. I may listen again!
    Entertaining Story with Excellent Narration
I enjoyed this book -- easy reading, interesting theme, especially for non-Indians who may take for granted that surrogacy is just another way to carry and birth a baby.
The House of Happy Mothers not only addresses what surrogacy means to women in the West and in the East, but to the poor and to the rich. It also interweaves the issue of ethical responsibility of those who promote these services (the clinics and doctors who make bank in the industry), social justice and women's rights.
The author did a good job describing the surrogate and the biological mom -- we had a good sense of the complexities involved in their individual processes. in fact, the surrogate moms' complaints and inner turmoil were a strong vehicle for a social critique that I enjoyed very much.
At times, however, the book seemed a bit redundant, and I would've liked it to be more spare. At the very end, the author seems to have felt compelled to spoon-feed us the conclusion so to speak, that seemed unnecessary.
I can't say enough about the narrator: She carried the book at moments when I simply would've had a hard time concentrating.

    Publisher's Summary:
When Jill becomes both pregnant and single at the end of one spring semester, she and her two closest friends plunge into an experiment in tri-parenting, tri-schooling, and tri-habitating as grad students in Seattle. Naturally, everything goes wrong - but in ways no one sees coming.
Janey Duncan narrates the adventure of this modern family with hilarity and wisdom and shows how three lives are forever changed by (un)cooperative parenting, literature, and a tiny baby named Atlas who upends and uplifts their entire world. In this sparkling and wise debut novel, Frankel's unforgettable heroines prove that home is simply where the love is.

    Fun & well written
Loved the story but not my favorite Laurie Frankel book. Well written, relatable characters but I find it a little slow at times.

Librarian Janet Johnson is puzzled when she is invited - and practically dragged - to her first meeting of the Rejected Writers' Book Club. This quirky group of women would much rather celebrate one another's rejected manuscripts over cups of tea and slices of lemon cake than actually publish a book. But good friends are exactly what Janet needs after moving to the small town of Southlea Bay, Washington. Just as the ladies are about to raise a teacup to their five hundredth rejection letter, they receive bad news that could destroy one member's reputation - and disband the group forever. To save the club, Janet joins her fellow writers on a wild road trip to San Francisco in search of the local publisher who holds the key to a long-buried secret. As they race to the finish line, they'll face their fears - landslides, haunted houses, handsome strangers, ungrateful children - and have the time of their lives.

    Adorable
Sometimes you come across a book that just touches you. As a writer this was one of those books. Rich in warm likable characters that charmed you, made you laugh out loud. Found myself just simply enjoying the journey these ladies took me on. Warm and fresh and different.
    Absolutely hilarious!
I downloaded this by accident. I had a blast listening to it. I literally had to stop myself during my dialysis run because I was laughing so hard! I woke my sleeping neighbors.
Book ok. The narrator makes it 100 worse.
She reads in the wrong tone, emphasizes the wrong words, whines through the character and makes the book cringe worthy. I may have actually enjoyed if I'd read it instead of listened to it. Then again, maybe not.
    Too silly
Although there were some funny times, most was just plain silly. I wouldn't recommend this book.
    Loved this book.
At first I thought that this book was not for me. Sometimes social discomfort just isnt for me but I fell I love with the characters quickly after that. Their adventure didn't make me question their intelligence; it was all possible and charming. It definitely is for 40 and older. Especially if you have that daughter. Enjoy. It is a fun trip!

    Amazing story
This story fills in so many gaps from Betty's Book - the first in the series. Gaps you didn't know you were missing. The narration is done very well. The history in these books just grabs you and keeps you there.
    Great Book!
    Any additional comments?
This is a great book; this is the second book in the Edenville series written by Danielle Stewart and narrated by Robin Rowan. This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. The story flowed very well and was very enjoyable. This book will keep you reading long into the night and you will not want to put this book down until you finish. This was such a great read and full of surprises. The narrator Robin Rowan did a wonderful job with this book. She did a great job with the different voices of each character in this book. It was very easy to listen to and I didnt want to stop listening until the end. If you are looking for a great book with well-developed characters then you need to listen to this book. I am looking forward to listening to the next book by this author and narrator.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
    Great series
As my husband tour this great country, we listened to the first 2 books in the series. At our age we can relate and sympathize. All efforts to enlighten readers to that time are appreciated. I pray history never repeats itself.
    Love this story
What made the experience of listening to Kiss in the Wind the most enjoyable?
I love the characters in this story.

    Narrator was wonderful.
I love reading this book. Listening to this hilarious narrator made even better. Didn't want it to end.
Mame fans should love this fix
A good sequel for those who enjoyed the first book (or the film version). Some of their adventures I found a bit flat (Biarritz), and others dark (Venice), but overall the story worked fine for me; although, the first couple of chapters in Paris and London were stronger, with the rest seeming more . . . slapstick or formulaic.
Narrator manages solid voices for Patrick and Mame, as well as the many secondary characters.

    Publisher's Summary:
Ferdinand Brun hasn't always been a grumpy old man. Many years ago, he was a grumpy young man. Now he'd much rather spend time with his canine companion, Daisy, than any of his nosy neighbors. But as his behavior becomes increasingly peculiar, his daughter grows concerned and begins to consider moving him into a retirement home.
In order to maintain his freedom, Ferdinand must submit to an apartment inspection by his longtime enemy, the iron-fisted concierge, Mrs. Suarez. Unfortunately, he's never tidied up a day in his life. His neighbors, precocious ten-year-old Juliette and vivacious ninety-two-year-old Beatrice, come to the rescue. And once he lets these two into his life, things will never be the same. After an eighty-three-year reign of grouchiness, Ferdinand may finally learn that it's never too late to start living.
    Members Reviews:
    Cute Story of Internal Growth
This was a nice story that featured an old cranky man that hated the world and everything in it except his beloved dog. After tragic events, he no longer had any reason to live (even though he has a daughter and grandson). The story moved through many mini stories that eventually made the old man reevaluate his life's choices. It's a story of personal growth, perseverance and gratitude despite his stubbornness,
As I stated in my title, this was a cute book and I would recommend it. There isn't anything about it that makes it a page turner that you "just can't put down", but a sweetness about it that makes you think about your life and what you may be grateful for.
    Grumpy isn't always funny
I was really hoping I'd like this book as much as I liked A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman because I could totally get behind that kind of a grumpy, old, stubborn man who doesn't think he has anything else to live for.
"His hostility has become second nature, a way of life, of survival, even. Yes, survival, because Ferdinand resents growing old. Solitude, the decay of the body, all that is slowly killing him. The only activity Ferdinand has found to stave off boredom is being nasty so no one misses him when he goes."
But, this wasn't nearly on that level at all. I couldn't connect with the main character on ANYTHING in the first half of the book. The story dragged and I thought about not finishing it at all (I do not DNF books, ever). But once the secondary characters came into the story more, then I actually started to enjoy it. In all reality, I'd give the first half of the book a star or two and the second half gets all five, so I decided to round it out.
The narrator was okay. There were a few instances where I wasn't able to decipher what voice he was narrating at the time.
A different kind of coming of age.
Ferdinand is an octogenarian curmudgeon resigned to a dreary obstinate life alone in an apartment complex full of people who don't understand him. But things start to happen that bring him a new perspective on life. The story is charming, intelligent, funny and loving. I adored it, didn't want to stop listening to it. The reader has a straightforward delivery that makes perfect and gently perceptive sense. And the story has some surprising twists. Very much a satisfying read.

    Title: The Grand Inquisitor
    Author: Fyodor Dostoyevsky
    Narrator: Dan Ribaudo, Alan Lamberg
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 1 hr and 18 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 11-13-15
    Publisher: Corner Film Productions
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 14 votes
    Genres: Fiction, Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
"The Grand Inquisitor" is a central chapter of Dostoyevsky's novel The Brothers Karamazov. The middle brother, Ivan, is having a conversation with his younger brother, Alyosha. Ivan represents the rationalist and nihilistic ideology that permeated Russia in the 19th Century. Alyosha's beliefs counterbalance his brother's. He embodies hope. Ivan tells Alyosha a vision where the grand inquisitor, during the Spanish inquisition, encounters Jesus Christ, who has made a return to Earth. Here, Jesus is rejected by a world leader who says, "Why have you come now to hinder us? We are working not with you, but with him." Ivan's vision reveals the suffering in his heart, the doubt he feels in the world. He struggles with feeling separate from all whom he loves. Do you see yourself in Ivan?
The Brothers Karamazov was written by Fyodor Dostoyevsky (1821-1881). It was written on two levels. On the surface, it is the story of a death of a father, where all three sons share varying degrees of complicity. But on a deeper level, it is a spiritual drama of moral struggles between faith, doubt, reason, and free will. Dostoyevsky interwove themes of a struggling family, the deceptive beauty of institutions, existential angst, and hope. Here, we look at the theme of hope, of spiritual devotion to the divine nature of our world where, in spite of the darkness that slowly clouds our hearts from bitter experiences, there exists proof in the divinity of our universe in our ability to love.

I think that anyone who is interested to read this book should keep in mind that this is framed as a series of questions about faith in god, in man, and in human nature. Take a step back and see the book as a whole.

    Publisher's Summary:
For fans of TheCurious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime comes this landmark novel about autism, memory, and, ultimately, redemption.
Sent to a "therapeutic community" for autism at the age of 11, Todd Aaron, now in his '50s, is the "old fox" of Payton Living Center. A joyous man who rereads the encyclopedia compulsively, he is unnerved by the sudden arrivals of a menacing new staffer and a disruptive, brain-injured roommate. His equilibrium is further worsened by Martine, a one-eyed new resident who has romantic intentions and convinces him to go off his meds to feel "normal" again. Undone by these pressures, Todd attempts an escape to return "home" to his younger brother and to a childhood that now inhabits only his dreams.
Written astonishingly in the first-person voice of an autistic, adult man, Best Boy - with its unforgettable portraits of Todd's beloved mother, whose sweet voice still sings from the grave, and a staffer named Raykene, who says that Todd reflects the beauty of God's creation - is a piercing, achingly funny, finally shattering novel no listener can ever forget.

Good but with a Couple O' Caveats...
This is a really good book... if you haven't listened to "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time." It's hard not to draw a comparison between the two, but the latter truly captured the voice of a person on the spectrum while this rather... mimics? it. It also has a few things that seem to be lifted from it, as in: Todd goes off on a journey by himself and has to deal with the "real" world for a bit.
But if we're judging the book on its own merits? Good story about a man who yearns for love and to belong, a man who has to have things just so lest he be subjected to the "volts" from his own brain and soul. A man who, because he feels longing for a woman, a girlfriend (a troubled, troubled individual named Martine who is used to flaunting the rules of whatever institution she's in), will go off his meds just to make that connection.
This also does a brilliant job of med depictions: They're necessary, but boy, at what a cost!
One of the weakest points, and I feel bad for saying this because I think Bronson Pinchot is one of the most talented narrators there is, is the narration. I suggest listening at x1.25 speed because, even then, Todd's "voice" is so slow and halting that one thinks that he has intellectual delays when he doesn't. What merits the 4-star narration is that Pinchot does a truly, truly remarkable job with bringing every single character to life, with their own identities, their own wants, their needs and dislikes. The man rocks.
There are a few twists, and a turn at the end that make this a worthwhile listen... very much so!
I just wouldn't spend an entire credit on it...
The most moving book I've listen to in years
Sensitive and delicately written, beautifully performed
A window into the autistic mind. Humanizing.
Also exciting, with a tense plot point that unfolds in the middle of the book.
You got to love Todd, The 50 something hero of the book, who has been institutionalized for his disorder since he was 10 years old.
