If you like Koontz...

Night Chill had great imagination. The plot opened up quite masterfully and I enjoyed finding things out as the main characters did and guessing along the way. James Lewis' performance was very strong...reminded me a bit of George Guidall, a very good thing to me.

Beyond just the main plot, you have a pretty interesting sub plot as you learn about Jack's past. That part was a little predictable but not everything has to be this huge mystery. Bottom line: I was freaked enough that I didn't want to listen in my room alone at night and yet enthralled highly so that I couldn't pull the ear buds out! This was a really fun story and I'm glad I took a chance on it!

"The Place Where Nightmares are Born"

There are many twists and what-the-heck? moments in this story especially early on. If you are looking for a listen that will keep you on the edge of your seat, make you yell in frustration and chew your nails in suspense, this is it. Fans of Dean Koontz will enjoy this unexpected gem.

More Frustrating Than Frightening

Night Chills wasnt a horrible story, but I did do a lot of eye-rolling listening to it.

One of the fiction writers credos is only trouble is interesting. But when the trouble comes about because of your characters asinine decisions or forced and inexplicable circumstances, then the trouble is more frustrating and less interesting. Here is an example: Youre at a public rest stop. Your kids are in the car with you and you need a pay phone. You spot one some distance from where youre parked, but instead of driving closer to the phone, you decide to get out and walk to it leaving your kids alone in the unlocked car. Oh, and this just after youve gotten a creepy message telling you that someone wanted to hurt one of your kids. So, of course, while youre on the phone, you turn around to see a creepy man chatting up your daughters in the backseat. My first thought was, dude, you didnt see this coming? Youre in a public rest stop! Nothing good ever happens in a public rest stop, and I rolled my eyes.

Heres another one: Your young daughter is lost in a hospital. To help find her youve enlisted a couple of orderlies to wander the halls calling her name. It occurs to you that your daughter might not respond to a couple of strange men shouting after her, and so you conclude that she must be hiding. Im thinking, hospital is big enough for a child to get lost in but not big enough to have a PA system? Get on the PA and let her hear her mothers voice, but this wouldnt have worked for the story as written.

Connor's POV...Oh So Good!!!

I have to start by saying that I really enjoy hearing both sides of the story. I LOVE when we get told the story from the man's point of view (POV) and that is what we get here. I will say that we are starting back from the beginning with book 2 and hearing pretty much everything again from Connor's side of the story, however it is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO worth it! Also we get more information and go farther with this story. I can't say a whole lot because I don't want to ruin anything for you, however I love this series and this one is definitely a great one too.

I have to admit that I was so angry with Connor during parts of book 1, though i tried to keep an open mind. This book did help that, though being a woman myself I will never fully understand men :) Even the fictional ones...oh well!!! I love this story. I didn't have quite the extreme emotions from this one, which is excellent because seriously how many days in a row can I just cry? I think part of the reason is that I knew what was coming, at least for the most part.

Totally recommend this one, fabulous!!!

His version of her version.

Forever You and Forever Black are basicly the same story, one has male narration from Connor's frame of reference the other , female narration from El's point of view.. I would recommend choosing one or the other. I listened to Forever Black first and was quite ready to move on with the story of their lives. The romance is good without extreme erotica.

Good Ending

I got a little tired of the fighting between Ellery and Connor and Connor's lack of understanding era felt the way she did about his previous lifestyle. But he always redeemed himself. I didn't care for the female voice of the male narrator up not to the point of not wanting to listen.

All in all I would recommend the book, I really liked knowing Connor's thought process, especially when he totally changed from a man who easily and sex with 4 women in a days time to being faithful. love stories where that happens and he has met the one.

Pidge & Travis I could Read & Listen Forever!

DO NOT MISS THIS!!!! Not only are the Narrators Outstanding for Beautiful Disaster and Walking Disaster, if it's possible, they're even better in the performance of A Beautiful Wedding. I never want it to end. The story and pacing are excellent, and I will have to listen to Travis and Pidge again in the other books. Jamie McGuire has hit her "Sweet Spot" in her story of these two...while I've read her other books...nothing affects me or hits home with me like Travis and Pidge - and I'd love for her to write a sequel about a Travis, PIdge, their lives and perhaps what goes on with the next brother and the next...doesn't have to be a murder or huge crisis, Jamie writes real life very well. As usual with my "treasured" books, I own the ebook, hardcover and Audible - reading and listening add different dimensions and reveal different things about the same story - I Love Love. With these two, the depth of feeling is never corny, you'll feel a warmth, a glimpse of the character and heart it takes to deserve what they have. They truly become One.

Nope, just nope!

This actually made me think less of the main characters and broke my heart a bit!! This feels like the publisher was pushing for a novella, but it fell flat. No Bueno, I think I'm done if the next book has this feel! I don't think Beautiful Disaster was supposed to continue, the integrity of the story is diminished with each new book. I'll take quality over quantity any day!

Awesome!

So awesome we get to relive Abby and Travis... this was great.... I knew some great things happen at the wedding... Great Great!!! I could even tolerate the dual narration, which I am not a fan of...

Narration was great from Galvin POV... and great from Webber POV...I prefer just one narrator, but since I was in Beautiful Disaster and Walking Disaster world at the same time...it worked...

The book answered some questions I had at the end of the last book and I was so happy to go along for the beginning of their HEA. It was nice to have one of their books told from both perspectives too.

So major.

I loved listening to this. Totally stellar. Eileen Myles' writing it totally genius on the page, but then with her voice it's Nexf Level. Recommended

Funny and sometimes poignant, but erratic

It's clear that Myles shouldn't read her own work. As a performer she may have been moving in the 70s and 80s when she was discovering herself in the poetry scene of beatnik New York. But that voice loses its resonance in the 21st century and her experimental wandering novel becomes only a loose collection of sentences, most seemingly having little or nothing to do with the others. At times funny and even sharply profound, her memoir novel is otherwise only confusing, grotesque, and weirdly detached. Which may have been the point. A reflection on life as she sees it. But her delivery of that viewpoint is lacking in skill and subtlety. And her delivery as a voice narrator is both jarring and frustrating as she has no skill or smoothness. The editing is rough if it exists at all so the whole track sounds disjointed as though she often lost her place and had to stop for breath or to interpret a badly written word. Ultimately not a good listening experience.

Not only has the tale come down to us intact (unlike much Arthurian literature), it has captured readers' (and listeners') imaginations for over 600 years. Tolkien was a fan and produced a translation from the Middle English, and Sean Connery starred as the Green Knight in a 1984 movie. What you'll hear on this audio is a faithful translation of the original by Jessie L. Weston, a scholar and poetess of whom TS Eliot was much enamoured.

A classic story well read

If you like stories set in the medieval period you should like this audio book as the story is great and the narrator did a great job.

Loved this version and the narrator's voice is very pleasant. Sound was great and volume consistent.

Why this was helpful and very well read, it was not the original version. I got lost a few times as I followed along with the original reading.

The trial of Honor of the Knights code

Not my favorite Arthurian legend but it is still a good one. The performance was excellent and I would suggest this to anyone who is fascinated with old stories of knights and legends of the Round Table.

Has not age well

I loved this book in college. It was well written and the main characters (well, the men anyway) were so anarchistic. Drinking, brawling, womanizing...at the time it seemed so compelling. Now, 40 years later, I gave it another try. It did not age well. For one thing, the main character is abusive and exploits the women in his life and you can't help but wonder what they ever saw in him. I could go on, but times change and misogyny just isn't amusing anymore.

The Ginger Man - Ok, but

I picked this novel since it is on the list of the top novels. I see the wit and I can see why at the time it was banned in some places. It was interesting performance but it become slow with his endless scheming. I was amused in some places and not in others. It is worth a read to see the character in a certain time and place. However, I will not re-read.

One of the Best

An instant favorite for me. I'm not sure how this book eluded me for so long but it will be a companion for life. The reading by Moy is nothing short of a performance. Wonderful accents, inflection and pace.

Would only ever buy this on sale

This narrator was terrible! His attempt at a female voice was a joke. Entertaining story, but terrible writing. Story wasn't very realistic. A tragedy happens in the beginning but then afterwards literally everything is perfect? Also I think this authors favorite word is "pleased" said it at least 5 times a chapter. It was worth the cheap price I paid for since it was on sale, but I would never buy this full price.

Liked them all and how they each needed each other at the moment they came together.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Has to be Terry. I felt so sorry for him. Wouldn't it be great if parents like his were fiction? We all know better though.

I am not a Danielle Steel fan.. But...

I haven't considered buying and reading a Danielle Steel book since I was in the seventh grade. All avid readers know that Steel uses the same formula, the same story- just different names and locations. I must have bought 'Winners' on some kind of Audible sale. I downloaded it to my iphone on a business trip and I found, surprisingly, that I really got into the story!

I was surprised that the story not only held my attention, but I really wanted to continue listening to it. The narration is told by different characters, and although it's non plausible and 'too good to be true,' I still essentially enjoyed the story.

We have a young promising Olympic skier who is injured and is told she would never walk again.

Compelling Story, Ridiculous Narrator

What did you like best about Strong Motion? What did you like least?

This one was a little slow starting for me because all the characters are jerks, but once the earthquakes started, I was hooked.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I particularly liked the character of Rene, who humanizes Louis and makes me like him more.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The audiobook narrator, however, I did not enjoy. First of all, apparently he thinks the best way to convey a female voice is to become grating, nasal, and lispy. Some of the female characters sounded like Beavis and Butthead. Seriously. Bad.What's more, the narrator constantly mispronounces things, from words like "hegemony" to place names. I can almost forgive the place names, as we here in Massachusetts do pronounce things in unlikely ways, but the actual words, those are less forgivable. But back to the place names, why would the publisher hire someone to read a book about metro Boston who clearly has no idea about greater Boston? Among the place names mispronounced here: Worcester, Waltham, Peabody, and Copley Square. How hard is it to pronounce Copley Square? What I'm saying is, this narrator did not do his homework.

Was Strong Motion worth the listening time?

I'm lukewarm on this one. It's a good story, but I often had to cringe and grit my teeth through the narration.

Clearly Franzen, but with plot

This was a great novel, which certainly follows the Franzen formula evident in his other books, with a few notable differences.

1. Most of the story is told from one point of view where most of his works switch fairly often.

2. The story has a pretty linear AND chronological plot - which is another clear departure.

If you liked The Corrections or Freedom you are sure to like this one as well, but I have to admit I enjoyed Freedom far more than this book just due to the subject matter.. Seismology and highly intelligent academics ( a big part of this book) are not in my realm of concern where music and politics are (which are a big part of freedom)..

The narrator does a great job with the material, and can hear a small chuckle in his voice during some of the funniest parts of this book (although dark)

Easily as good as "The Corrections"

What made the experience of listening to Strong Motion the most enjoyable?

It's an outstanding story, with great character development and an ability to at least explain both sides of several social issues dealt with in a rational and well thought out manner (though the author's actual stance on any such issue is never left to the imagination).

What other book might you compare Strong Motion to and why?

Any of Franzen's other novels.

Loved the story, but the narrator......

This was my first experience with Charles Brokaw and I loved the story but the narrator almost killed it. His mumbled monotone delivery of the main characters dialogue almost put me to sleep more than once . There were too many long pauses in the sentences and the dialogue. I want to listen to Brokaw's other books but I'm not excited about this narrator.

Narrator is not convincing

Good story but the narrator's reading is not conveying nor the energy nor the action. Quite emotionless and slow...

I purchased all 3 of this author read by Jonathan Davis. Not to be missed as this reader brings author's hero to life and makes all characters including all the female just wonderful.

What does Jonathan Davis bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

Mr. Davis does such wonderful voices both female and male, that I have started a nice collection of his work. My fave is Sandra Brown's Mean Streak, a romance mystery.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Every time I got in my car, the first thing I did was turn this on my radio and I would sit in the car 30 min after I got home to listen to it. I played it while at the gym and would have at work if I could have. I hated and was sad the day that it ended. I couldn't wait to get part two!
