A sparse overview

ITIL For Beginners is useful for getting a very basic knowledge, but not much more than that. It is rather stilted in how it flows and is full of buzzwords.

The introduction starts off in a promising manner, going through a bit of the history of why ITIL was developed and why it is needed. But this moves away from the "why" and into the "who" and "what" fairly quickly, talking about revision versions and which company did what. The "why" is useful for understanding ITIL, but the "what and what" is not. I assume it was in there as some sort of requirement by the developers of ITIL, because it doesn't actually serve much purpose beyond that.

We then get some more good work with some examples of where ITIL could be used, basing it on a made up company PDC. This discusses how the fictional PDC could improve using ITIL. There are other examples such as email that provide real life explanation to the concept.

But once we move into the bulk of the book the examples and real life explanations disappear. The majority of the chapters consist of a small introduction followed by lists and dot points. Or lists of lists. It's information at the most sparse and high level, with no grounding in how they would be implemented or interact with one another

To understand how simple it is, at one point (while going through one of its many lists) it is giving descriptions of some of the 'titles' used in ITIL. One part actually reads "Number of new customers: This is the number of new customers using the service". Really? Because that wasn't obvious at all.

The problem with lists is the there is no flow and remembering what is at the start of the list is difficult when there is no interaction and no context between what is in those lists. It just becomes a series of unconnected statements.

I listened through it twice, once without the PDF companion and once with it. The second time I was hoping that more would stick and I would get some more depth out of it, but the PDF companion doesn't really add much. In fact all it is an excerpt of the item that are reads. Some of the lists, but not all of them so you can't even use if for a reference for the entirety of the audio.

It ends with a case study talking about a real company who used ITIL and how it improved their service.

Unexpectedly insightful and very much welcomed. I listened to the audio version of it while traveling on the road and think I may listen to it again.

Scares you about what computers are doing to is, and then picks us up. Nicely done. Lots of great examples.

So insightful. This is the type of thing you need to wrap your head around in order to feel supremely confident in your future if you have a big chunk of your career ahead of you. Really fun to read and very applicable.

Great in sight on life and times of Blackbird crew

Great story. Good anecdotes with real depth. A bit repetitive at times, but this is more a function of similar questions being asked and answered. Well worth the time investment esp. Pappas allows the casual observer to step into an active duty squadron, and strap into Habu, for a wild ride into aviation history.

Great book, great highlights. I'd love to hear Terry's whole story. Please write a book that takes us into his life, his experiences, his victories behind the stick.

I suspect there are some amazing stories out there that the sr71 team needs to cough up before we start to lose that amazing time in the usaf history. These guy are the real RIGHT STUFF. I look forward to more... Please. :-)

I only listened to the very beginning since the audiobook reffers the accompanying PDF file that isn't provided together with the book. The description doesn't mention that there is a PDF file included, but this situation discouraged me so much that it was the first book that I returned on Audible.

I love books about A.I. because it's so mysterious and exciting. It's an ongoing secret that many people will spend their whole life trying to figure A.I. out.

Don't do it: Be fooled by the Title

Extremely dated for 2015. IBM said "Computers will never take over the world" This comment does not refer to IBM's Watson technology but to a 1960's article. The reigning AI of chess playing programs was mentioned and compared to programs that play checkers. I realize some AI enthusiasts my not have been born when Deep Blue beat Kasparov in 1997.

Surprisingly Useful

I was not sure how listening to spoken command line examples would work. It worked surprisingly well. You're not going to remember the commands, but I found great value in just knowing there were solutions to common (and not-so-common) problems.

There's even an Easter egg! Towards the end of the book, you can make out a cricket chirping in the background under the narrative!

Great listen

I've learned a great deal from this authors books. If I don't understand the mechanics of a subject I give up easily but the book goes into depth and gives realistic examples which keeps my simple brain entertained. I made a simple virus/malware detection kit with grep and a filter list. Get this and Linux for beginners and listen to that first.

Good by itself

Despite what others say: you do not need the companion book to get something out of this audiobook.

That being said: Do not listen to it with out having read other material and becoming familiar C#.

If one is having difficult with the materials, then listening to this book can help solidify one's understanding by emphasizing the main points and ideology instead of focusing on the minor details.

Most course books can get one lost in confusing detail laden run on sentences with confusing syntax.

The 30 second rewind in Audible is a godsend if you need a point reiterated.

I really benefited by listening to this book while walking outside.

Great companion to the actual book

Would you consider the audio edition of C# Programming for Beginners to be better than the print version?

This doesn't really apply for C# books. The audio book is purely a companion to the actual book due to the nature of the subject matter.

What was one of the most memorable moments of C# Programming for Beginners?

Teaches you everything about getting set up and the foundations of the subject matter.

Which scene was your favorite?

Listening to the narrator read out lines of code was amusing, difficult to do as it is a visual subject you need to read rather than listen to. The narrator did a great job given what he was reading.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I listened to it in the car on the way to work.

Don't get this without also buying the physical book. Due to the code examples you need to see them to fully understand the subject matter.
