Study on Homeless kids and how they might survive
(I obtained this as included in the Dark Humanity collection). A fascinating introduction to the burgeoning zombie plague through the eyes of a homeless teen. Mary is written with plenty of personality, street smarts, and odd lingo marking how long she has been on the streets. The tale itself reminds me of Fear of the Walking Dead with the zombie plague in its beginning phase when the world is just starting to figure out what it is, rather than our usual zombie fare of zombies being around every corner and the people being on the run from everything that so much as moves. This tale really centered around the homeless struggle and tried to give a new perspective on seeing them as regular teens and how they rely on each other. Honestly, where it fell short for me was that I never really latched on to Mary or any of her gang. I didnât really care for the blog posts that broke into the action per section.
While Thornton's promise of a great post apocalyptic thriller, it just missed the mark for me.
I am a huge sucker for a great heart thumping, blood pumping book that keeps you on the edge of your seat. I wanted soooo bad to be sucked into Jamie Thornton's world of homeless children navigating their way through the destruction of a society and the world as we know it. Instead, I found a book that was interested but just missed that spark to ignite my interest.
In Germination, Thornton takes you on a journey through the eyes of a homeless blogger- Mary. Mary has been surviving the streets for years now alongside her makeshift family of other teens lost to the underground world. They are her friends, her family, her life. But when she gets attacked by a crazed man while trying to save her group, Mary might become the monster herself.
While Thornton's promise of a great post apocalyptic thriller, it just missed the mark for me. I wanted to be riveted, sitting on the edge of my seat reading while chaos, destruction and disease wrapped itself within the crevices of my mind. It just didn't. The book was good, something I'd pick up and read as convenience allows, but not something I couldn't put down at any point. I do think Thornton shows great promise as an author, but just needs to step up her game a bit to really set that spark alive for this book.

I couldn't put this book down once I started it. It was well written and enjoyable.
Zombies are my favourite. , and this book has it. The characters are interesting.
