    Format: Unabridged
Length: 10 hrs and 50 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 06-01-17
    Publisher: University Press Audiobooks
    Genres: History, American
    Publisher's Summary:
St. Louis, despite its status as an inland river city frequently relegated to the backwaters of national significance, has stood at the crossroads of international matters for much of its history. From its 18th-century French fur trade origins to post-Cold War business dealings with Latin America and Asia, the city has never neglected nor been ignored by the world outside its borders. In this pioneering study, Henry W. Berger analyzes St. Louis's imperial engagement from its founding in 1764 to the present day, revealing the intersection of local political, cultural, and economic interests in foreign affairs.
Berger uses a biographical approach to explore the individuals and institutions that played a leading role in St. Louis's expansionist reach. He shows how St. Louis business leaders, entrepreneurs, politicians, and investors - often driven by personal and ideological motives, as well as the potential betterment of the city and its people - looked to the west, southwest, Latin America, Europe, Asia, and the Pacific to form economic or political partnerships. Among the people and companies Berger profiles are Thomas Hart Benton, cotton exporters James Paramore and William Senter, St. Louis oil tycoon and railroad investor Henry Clay Pierce, entrepreneur and politician David R. Francis, and McDonnell-Douglas founder, James S. McDonnell Jr.
The book is published by Southern Illinois University Press.
    Critic Reviews:
''This book is a significant achievement." (Matthew J. Mancini, Saint Louis University)

    Frontier Cities)
    "Thoroughly engaging and entertaining." (

    Release date: 05-04-17
    Publisher: IntroBooks

    Publisher's Summary:
Unlike the USA, the history of Mexico dates back to well within 1900 years or so. The discovery of Mexico was a coincidence. Again, the Spaniards were the first to discover Mexico, too. The French and Spanish armies tried to invade Mexico and the neighboring parts of North America. The Mexican Revolution that followed the American Revolution brought in total peace and Mexico gained total liberty from the foreign imperialistic measures. Soon broke out the war between the neighbors which did not last for long.
Terms and pacts brought in peace in the borders after a mutual agreement made with the USA. Today, Mexico is one of the most competent nations of the world, with massive natural resources and technological growth and development in the 21st century.

    Publisher's Summary:
An account of the landmark suffragist trial before the U.S. Circuit Court for the Northern District of New York, at Canandaigua, in June 1873, that brought the cause of women's voting rights to the forefront of national attention in the United States.
A group of women led by preeminent abolitionist and woman's rights advocate Susan B. Anthony (1820-1906), attempted to vote during the presidential election of 1872, claiming they were entitled to do so according to the Fourteenth Amendment. The presiding officials, Jones, Hall, and Marsh, decided by a majority to accept their ballots. The women were soon arrested for this act and indicted for "knowingly voting without having a lawful right to vote." The officials were also indicted.
    Editorial Reviews:
Narrator Stephen de Francesco provides a cool-toned, evenly-paced performance as he narrates this comprehensive account of the landmark suffragist trial before the U.S. Circuit Court for the Northern District of New York in June 1873. Womens' rights advocate Susan B. Anthony was arrested for voting in the 1872 presidential election, and at her trial, Supreme Court Associate Justice Ward Hunt refused to allow Anthony to testify on her own behalf, explicitly ordered the jury to give a guilty verdict, and read an opinion he had written before the trial had even begun. De Francesco's gravelly voice is serious and clear, and listeners will find this audiobook very informative and easy to digest.
