~~Myrtle the Monster and her Friends~~
Poor Myrtle the Monster is feeling all alone and sad on her birthday. She thinks that no one knows it is her special day so she is really surprised when Kelly the Kitten arrives with a gift. Not only a gift but she also decorates Myrtle the Monster's house with balloons and stars. And, brings a cake! Oh my, oh my... Myrtle is so happy but she did not realize that other companions would soon be arriving to share her birthday.
As one can see to the upper left, the drawing is bright and colorful and will hold the attention of the little ones. The author has suggested this book is written for up to age 6 and grades P - 2. It is also written in rhymes which I always feel enhances the reading experience for the younger children.
Well, the story doesn't end with Kelly the Kitten but I don't like to give spoilers in my reviews! Suffice it to say that the word has spread and soon Myrtle the Monster knows that she has friends that care and she feels so glad. Her feeling of being sad has left her on the day that is so special for her. Happy Birthday, Myrtle!
In addition to the rhymes and colorful drawings, there are some 'big' words contained in the text. A couple of examples are 'exclaimed and proclaimed'. This will enable the kids to expand their vocabulary which is another thing that I enjoy in a book for the younger ones.
So, the story is excellent as are the drawings and a wonderful message that tells how one is able to go from being sad to glad is contained in the book. Doesn't get much better than that for Myrtle the Monster in my estimation. She also realizes that she has friends that care and what a wonderful lesson to learn at an early age.
Most highly recommended.
Myrtle gets a big surprise after all on her birthday! Will anyone come?

A heart-rending tale with a heart-felt ending that children will enjoy
This is an enjoyable child-friendly book with adorable drawings that will draw kids into the well-told story and enchant them. The book is written in clever poetry, such as:
"Myrtle the Monster
sat there all alone.
'My birthday is here,'
She said with a moan."
Myrtle is sad. She feels alone. She thinks that no one will help her celebrate her birthday, that it will not be special. That it will be like every other day. Kids will relate to Myrtle's fears.
