Why did my cholesterol suddenly go up in menopause—even though I’m eating better and exercising?
If you opened your latest lab results and saw that little red “H” beside your cholesterol, don't panic—and definitely don't throw every egg in your refrigerator into the garbage. 😂
In this episode of Discover Your Personal Power: Hormones, Metabolism & Midlife, Peggy Moore, RN, MSN, breaks down what women need to understand about cholesterol during perimenopause and menopause.
Cholesterol isn't just one number, and your total cholesterol doesn't tell the whole story. We’re translating your lipid panel into normal human language and talking about LDL, HDL, triglycerides, non-HDL cholesterol, ApoB, Lp(a), and coronary artery calcium (CAC) scans—without turning this into a cardiology lecture.
We also explore why cholesterol can change around menopause, why being thin or physically active doesn't automatically eliminate cardiovascular risk, and why your blood pressure, blood sugar, family history, pregnancy history, menopause history, and long-term lab trends all matter.
You'll learn how food, soluble fiber, healthy fats, walking, strength training, cardiovascular exercise, sleep, and other lifestyle habits fit into a heart-healthy plan—and when it may be worth talking with your healthcare provider about additional testing or medication.
Most importantly, this episode isn't about creating a prettier lab report.
It's about protecting the woman you want to be at 65, 75 and 85—the woman who travels, hikes, plays with her grandchildren, goes on cruises, spends time with friends, lives independently, and enjoys the life she's spent decades building.
The bigger question isn't just: “How do I lower my cholesterol?”
It's: “What can I do today to protect the woman I want to be 20 years from now?”

The Midlife Mystery of Achy Joints, Stiff Muscles & Menopause
Discover Your Personal Power: Hormones, Metabolism & Midlife
Episode Description
Have you ever woken up in the morning and wondered, “Why does everything hurt?” Your knees need a minute, your feet ache, your shoulder is suddenly angry—and apparently sleeping is now a contact sport.
In this episode, Peggy Moore, RN and Functional Medicine Practitioner, explores why joint pain, muscle aches, stiffness, and tendon problems can become more common during perimenopause and menopause. We’ll look at the role of estrogen, inflammation, muscle loss, sleep, protein, resistance training, vitamin D, collagen, and hormone therapy—and why we shouldn’t automatically blame every ache after 40 on menopause.
Most importantly, we’re shifting the conversation from getting smaller to getting stronger so you can protect your mobility, independence, and ability to do the things you love for decades to come.
In This Episode, We Talk About:
Common Questions Midlife Women Are Asking
Is joint pain really a menopause symptom?
Why am I suddenly so stiff in the morning?
Can low estrogen make my whole body ache?
Will collagen actually help my joints?
Could hormone therapy help?
Why does everything hurt even though I'm exercising?
What can I do now to stay strong as I age?
Your 7-Day Challenge
For one week, become a detective. Track where you're stiff, how long it lasts, how you're sleeping, your movement and exercise, stress, nutrition, and when your pain gets better or worse. Then ask yourself:
“What physical ability do I want to protect for the next 20 years?”
That might be traveling, hiking, gardening, playing with your grandchildren—or simply getting off the floor without negotiating with the coffee table.
The Takeaway
Your goal isn't to turn back the clock.
It's to build a body that supports the life you're living now and the life you want to live later.
Ask better questions. Investigate persistent pain. Build strength. Protect your muscle. Move your body. Prioritize sleep and adequate nutrition—and stop measuring successful aging only by the number on the scale.
Ready to understand what YOUR body is trying to tell you?
If you're struggling with fatigue, poor sleep, stubborn weight changes, brain fog, or other frustrating midlife symptoms and aren't sure where to start, schedule a Midlife Metabolism Clarity Call with me.
We'll look at the bigger picture, identify where your body may need more support, and determine your next best step.
Your symptoms are information. Ask better questions. Look at the whole picture.

🎙️ Where Did My Brain Go? Menopause Brain Fog, Memory Slips & Your Midlife Mind
Have you ever walked into a room and forgotten why you were there? Searched for your phone while it was literally in your hand? Or stopped mid-sentence because a word you've used since 1978 suddenly entered witness protection? 😂
If you've wondered, “Is this just menopause—or is something wrong with my brain?” this episode is for you.
In this episode of Discover Your Personal Power: Hormones, Metabolism & Midlife, I'm breaking down why brain fog, forgetfulness, word-finding problems, and trouble concentrating can become more noticeable during midlife—and why hormones aren't always the whole story.
We'll talk about the difference between a memory problem and an overloaded attention system, plus how sleep, stress, blood-sugar regulation, thyroid health, nutrition, medications, mental load, and hormonal changes can all affect how your brain feels and functions.
In this episode, you'll learn:
Most importantly, don't let brain fog convince you that you've become less intelligent.
The books are still in the library. The librarian is just overwhelmed. Give her a minute.
Your symptoms are information. Instead of automatically blaming everything on menopause, let's get curious, look at the whole woman, and ask better questions.
And as always, I do the research so you don't have to.

What if one of the missing pieces in your health journey is sitting right under your nose...literally?
We talk a lot about gut health, hormones, blood sugar, inflammation, sleep, and stress—but how often do we stop and think about what is happening inside our mouths?
In this episode of Discover Your Personal Power: Hormones, Metabolism & Midlife, I sit down with Dr. Charles “Chuck” Reinertsen, DMD, dentist, author, educator, and advocate for bringing medicine and dentistry back into the same conversation.
And this conversation may completely change the way you think about your dental health.
Because your mouth isn't separate from the rest of your body.
Dr. Reinertsen explains how dental infections and gum disease can sometimes exist without significant pain or obvious symptoms—and why oral health deserves a place in the bigger conversation about whole-body health.
We also talk about something I believe strongly in as a functional medicine practitioner: when you're dealing with persistent symptoms, you have to look at the whole person.
Sometimes the clue we're missing isn't where we've been looking.
And yes, ladies, apparently we now have ONE MORE thing to pay attention to in midlife. 😂
A Big Takeaway From This Conversation
Your mouth is part of your body.
It sounds ridiculously obvious when you say it out loud.
And yet healthcare has traditionally separated dentistry and medicine into two very different systems.
Dr. Reinertsen has spent decades trying to bring attention to that gap and encouraging patients and healthcare professionals to think differently about the relationship between oral and overall health.
His message isn't to panic every time your gums bleed or assume your teeth are responsible for every symptom you have.
It's to stop ignoring the mouth when we're looking at the whole person.
That is an important distinction.
As I always say, symptoms are information.
We need to ask better questions, look for patterns, and investigate the appropriate underlying contributors rather than assuming every symptom has one simple cause.
About Dr. Chuck Reinertsen
Charles “Chuck” Reinertsen, DMD graduated from the University of Florida College of Dentistry in 1979 and has more than four decades of clinical dental experience.
He is also the founder of The Dental Medical Convergence, a nonprofit organization focused on closing the education gap between medicine and dentistry.
You can find him at www.TheDentalMedicalConvergence.org
He is the author of:
Are Your Teeth Making You Sick? The Answer Is Right Under Your Nose
His work focuses on helping patients and healthcare professionals better understand the connection between oral and systemic health and on improving communication between the medical and dental professions.
The book explores the mouth-body connection, hidden dental infections, gum disease, home oral care, finding the right dentist, and ways patients can encourage better communication between their dental and medical providers.
If you've ever thought, “My teeth don't hurt, so everything must be fine,” this conversation—and his book—may give you a very different perspective.
Peggy's Takeaway
This episode is also such a good reminder of why I love looking at health through a functional-medicine lens.
If you're exhausted, inflamed, struggling with blood sugar, dealing with brain fog, or simply don't feel like yourself, the answer isn't always:
“It's your hormones.”
Hormones matter.
But so do sleep, stress, nutrition, thyroid function, metabolic health, medications, gut health—and yes, oral health.
We don't want to chase one symptom after another.
We want to step back and ask:
What is the whole body trying to tell us?
That's where we start connecting the dots.
And that's personal power.

Stop Rehearsing the Wound: The Hidden Cost of the Stories We Keep Telling
Have you ever found yourself lying awake at 3:00 a.m. replaying a conversation that happened months—or even years—ago?
Maybe you're replaying something someone said.
A relationship that ended.
A mistake you still regret.
The doctor's appointment where you were told “everything looks normal” even though you feel anything but normal.
Or maybe you're looking in the mirror wondering when your body changed so much—and when you stopped feeling like yourself.
Sometimes the thing exhausting us isn't only what happened.
It's the story we've been carrying about what happened.
In this episode of Discover Your Personal Power: Hormones, Metabolism & Midlife, Peggy Moore, RN, MSN, Functional Medicine Practitioner, explores the difference between processing a painful experience and continually rehearsing it—and how the stories we repeat about our health, bodies, relationships, and past can begin shaping what we believe about ourselves.
Because there's an important difference between saying:
“I'm struggling right now.”
and
“I'm just a struggling person.”
One describes what you're experiencing.
The other can slowly become your identity.
In This Episode, You'll Discover:
The Question to Ask Yourself
This week, listen to the way you talk about yourself.
When you hear yourself saying:
“I always…”
“I never…”
“I'm just…”
“Nothing works for me…”
Pause and ask:
Is this an objective fact—or is this a story I've learned to tell about myself?
Then ask:
“Is this helping me process and heal…or am I rehearsing the wound?”
You don't have to pretend the difficult chapter never happened.
You don't have to minimize what it cost you.
And you don't have to slap a positive affirmation over something that genuinely hurt.
But you can begin separating what happened to you from who you are.
Maybe your body isn't broken.
Maybe you simply don't understand everything it's trying to tell you yet.
Maybe you're not destined to be exhausted forever.
Maybe you're learning what your body needs in this season.
And maybe you don't need to keep carrying an emotional suitcase simply because you've carried it for a long time.
The chapter happened. It mattered. But it doesn't have to become the whole book.
If this episode made you think of another woman who's been carrying a heavy emotional suitcase for far too long, send this episode to her.
And if that woman is you?
Maybe today is the day you finally set one piece of it down.

Are you waking up tired, hitting a wall around 2 or 3 p.m., or wondering why you just don’t have the energy you used to have?
It’s easy to blame exhaustion on getting older, menopause, or simply having too much to do—but some of the biggest energy drains in midlife are hiding in plain sight.
In this episode of Discover Your Personal Power: Hormones, Metabolism & Midlife, Peggy Moore, RN, MSN, Functional Medicine Practitioner, breaks down 10 hidden energy drains that may be quietly stealing your physical and mental energy every day.
And they aren't all about hormones.
We’re talking about everything from blood sugar swings and poor-quality sleep to decision fatigue, emotional overload, dehydration, muscle loss, clutter, and people pleasing.
More importantly, you'll learn simple strategies you can start using today to begin plugging those energy leaks.
In This Episode, You'll Discover:
Peggy's Challenge for This Week
Don't try to fix all ten.
Choose one energy drain that sounded most like you and work on that one first.
Drink more water. Add protein to breakfast. Silence unnecessary notifications. Lift weights twice this week. Say no to something you don't actually have the capacity for.
Patch one leak.
Small changes repeated consistently can have a much bigger impact than trying to completely overhaul your life overnight.
If You're Experiencing Persistent Fatigue
Fatigue can have many causes. If you're consistently exhausted despite adequate rest, talk with your healthcare provider about whether further evaluation is appropriate based on your symptoms and medical history.
The goal isn't to assume everything is hormones—or to accept feeling terrible as an inevitable part of midlife.
It's to get curious about why you're feeling the way you're feeling.
Discover Your Personal Power: Hormones, Metabolism & Midlife
I'm Peggy Moore, and I help midlife women understand what's happening in their bodies so they can stop fighting their biology and start working with it.
I do the research so you don't have to.

Are you constantly exhausted, overwhelmed, and wondering why you don't feel like yourself anymore?
If you're a woman in midlife juggling work, family, caregiving, relationships, and endless responsibilities, you may be experiencing something deeper than everyday stress.
In this episode of Discover Your Personal Power: Hormones, Metabolism & Midlife, I sit down with Anne Mara Potts, vitality strategist, speaker, and founder of The Fun Reset, to discuss the concept of The Vitality Gap—the space that opens when life begins taking more from you than it's giving back.
Together, we explore why so many high-achieving women find themselves exhausted, emotionally drained, struggling with hormone imbalance, weight gain, poor sleep, chronic stress, and burnout during midlife.
This conversation will help you understand why your body is sending you signals—and why those signals deserve your attention.
In This Episode You'll Learn:
✔️ What the Vitality Gap is and why so many women experience it
✔️ Why burnout is more than simply being "too busy"
✔️ How chronic stress affects cortisol, hormones, metabolism, and energy
✔️ Why women often ignore their body's warning signs
✔️ The connection between stress, inflammation, hormone imbalance, and metabolic health
✔️ Why saying "yes" to everyone else often means saying "no" to yourself
✔️ How perfectionism and people-pleasing contribute to burnout
✔️ Why learning to say "no" is one of the healthiest things you can do
✔️ The surprising science behind fun, joy, and healing
✔️ Practical ways to begin restoring your energy without guilt
Key Takeaways
One of my favorite reminders from Anne is that we are renewable resources—but we are not unlimited resources.
As women, we spend years caring for everyone around us while pushing aside our own needs. Eventually, our bodies begin communicating through fatigue, insomnia, brain fog, weight gain, hormone changes, irritability, anxiety, digestive issues, and chronic inflammation.
Those symptoms aren't signs that you're failing.
They're messages.
When we begin listening to our bodies instead of fighting them, everything starts to change.

What if one of the most powerful tools for better sleep, more energy, improved mood, lower stress, and a healthier metabolism wasn't found in a supplement bottle?
What if it was simply stepping outside?
In today's episode, we're exploring one of the most overlooked—and completely free—health tools available to midlife women: sunlight, sunsets, fresh air, and time spent outdoors.
If you've ever noticed that you sleep better after a day outside, feel calmer after a walk, or experience a sense of peace watching the sunset, it's not your imagination.
Your body is responding exactly the way it was designed to.
We'll dive into the fascinating science behind circadian rhythm, cortisol, melatonin, metabolism, and why our modern indoor lifestyles may be contributing to many of the symptoms midlife women struggle with every day.
In This Episode You'll Learn:
☀️ Why morning sunlight is one of the most powerful tools for regulating your body's internal clock
☀️ The surprising connection between sunlight, cortisol, and better sleep
☀️ Why many women feel exhausted all day and wide awake at night
☀️ How your circadian rhythm influences hormones, metabolism, mood, digestion, and blood sugar
☀️ Why "tomorrow night's sleep starts this morning"
☀️ The calming science behind sunsets and evening light exposure
☀️ How fresh air and time in nature help reduce stress and support nervous system regulation
☀️ Why many modern health struggles may be connected to spending too much time indoors
☀️ Three simple ways to reconnect with the natural rhythms your body was designed for
Key Takeaway
Many women are looking for complicated solutions to problems that may have surprisingly simple roots.
We spend thousands of dollars searching for better sleep, more energy, improved mood, and a healthier metabolism.
Yet many of us spend very little time giving our bodies the signals they were designed to receive:
✨ Morning sunlight
✨ Fresh air
✨ Movement
✨ Nature
✨ Evening light cues
Sometimes the answer isn't adding more.
Sometimes it's returning to what we've forgotten.
The Science Behind It
Your body relies on light to regulate its internal clock.
Morning sunlight helps:
✔️ Anchor circadian rhythm
✔️ Support healthy cortisol timing
✔️ Improve melatonin production later in the day
✔️ Promote better sleep quality
✔️ Support blood sugar regulation
✔️ Influence hunger hormones and metabolism
In simple terms:
Morning light helps your body know when to be awake so it knows when to sleep.
Peggy's 7-Day Sunshine Challenge
For the next week:
☀️ Step outside within one hour of waking up
☀️ Spend at least 5–10 minutes in natural morning light
☀️ Watch at least one sunset
☀️ Take a 10-minute walk outdoors each day

No expensive gadgets.
No complicated protocols.
Just reconnecting your body with signals it has relied on for thousands of years.

Have you ever looked inside your supplement cabinet and wondered if you're taking enough vitamins to qualify as a small pharmacy?
If so, you're not alone.
The internet is full of promises that the right gummy, powder, tea, or capsule will magically balance your hormones, melt belly fat, fix your cortisol, boost your metabolism, and solve every symptom of perimenopause.
But what if the problem isn't that you're missing the perfect supplement?
What if your body is actually asking for a different kind of support?
In this episode, we're cutting through the noise and discussing the vitamins, minerals, and nutrients that actually matter during perimenopause and menopause—and why supplements should support your health, not replace the foundations of it.
You'll learn why some nutrients deserve "main character energy" in midlife, how stress impacts nutrient depletion, and why your body cannot supplement its way out of poor sleep, chronic stress, blood sugar chaos, or nervous system overload.
In This Episode You'll Learn:
✅ Why perimenopause is a hormonal transition—not a supplement deficiency
✅ The difference between support and symptom-chasing
✅ Why magnesium is one of the MVPs of midlife
✅ How Vitamin D influences mood, immunity, muscle health, and inflammation
✅ Why testing matters before adding supplements
✅ The role omega-3 fats play in inflammation, brain health, and metabolism
✅ Signs you may be low in B vitamins, especially B12
✅ Why creatine may be one of the most underrated supplements for women over 40
✅ How muscle protects metabolism, blood sugar, strength, and longevity
✅ Why protein, sleep, and blood sugar balance matter more than another supplement stack
Key Takeaway
Perimenopause doesn't automatically require:
❌ 14 supplements
❌ Detox teas
❌ Fat-burning gummies
❌ Adrenal miracle powders
❌ Random internet protocols
Your hormones aren't broken.
They're shifting.
And while targeted supplements can be incredibly helpful, they work best when they're built on a strong foundation of sleep, nourishment, movement, stress support, and blood sugar stability.
Remember:
Supplements fill gaps. They do not replace foundations.
