Discovering God's Word: Chapter by Chapter

What happens when God's promise is fulfilled, the gospel is proclaimed, and thousands of people are confronted with the truth about Jesus Christ?

In Acts 2, the Holy Spirit comes upon the apostles on the Day of Pentecost, empowering them to proclaim God's Word. Peter stands before the crowd and delivers a powerful message: Jesus, whom they crucified, has been raised from the dead, exalted to God's right hand, and made both Lord and Christ.

The response is immediate: "Men and brethren, what shall we do?" (Acts 2:37).

In this episode of Discovering God's Word: Chapter by Chapter, we explore the fulfillment of God's promise, Peter's sermon, the command to repent and be baptized for the remission of sins, and the remarkable devotion of the first Christians.

Three key takeaways:

• The center of Acts 2 is Jesus, not the miracles.

• The gospel calls for a response.

• Saved people become devoted people.

Acts 2 reminds us that genuine faith does more than acknowledge the truth about Jesus. It responds in obedience and continues in a life devoted to Him.

This Week's Challenge: Read Acts 2:36–42, identify one response God's Word requires from you, and obey it.

What do you do when there is work to be done, but God tells you to wait?

In Acts 1, the risen Jesus prepares His apostles for what comes next. After presenting Himself alive through many infallible proofs, Jesus promises the coming of the Holy Spirit, gives His apostles their mission, and ascends into heaven.

The apostles return to Jerusalem, continue together in prayer, and prepare for the work that will begin in Acts 2.

In this episode of Discovering God's Word: Chapter by Chapter, we explore the importance of Christ's resurrection, the unique mission of His apostles, and what it means to obey God's instructions faithfully while waiting.

This Week's Response: Choose one person, pray for them each day, and look for one opportunity to begin a spiritual conversation.

Join us as we study Acts 1 and discover how God's Word continues to guide our faith and obedience today.

Scripture: Acts 1 (NKJV)

Season 5 begins with the book of Acts. After following the life, teaching, death, and resurrection of Jesus through the Gospel accounts, we now ask: What happened next?

In this introduction, we look at who wrote Acts, when and where it was written, why the book matters, how Luke tells the story, and the roadmap provided by Acts 1:8. We’ll also identify several themes to watch throughout the book, including Jesus, the Holy Spirit, the church, conversions, ordinary Christians, and the continuing spread of the gospel.
