We get downright fiery as we confront a BC Conservative candidate and immigrant to Canada, Marina Sapozhnikov, and her racial slur used on BC's election night towards Indigenous people. As immigrants ourselves, we cannot stress enough the necessity and importance of learning Indigenous history as a priority for our integration in Canada. Ignorance and bigotry is not what it means to immigrate.
We call in both John Rustad, BC Conservative Party leader and Marina, to take accountability for their actions, step down from office and educate themselves. Dehumanizing stereotypes have no place in politics, in the civic square nor anywhere if we want to move forward with healing and reconciliation. Land acknowledgements must not be done with insincerity or as a means to sound polite. We are unfiltered as we discuss racism, promote social justice, and the need for sincere curiosity and education for all of us, immigrants too, concerning Indigenous history, culture and relationships.
Also, at the time of this episode airing, we have reached out to Marina for a conversation and she hasn't returned our message. Tell Mr. Rustad and other politicians that hate and discrimination has no place. You can email him here https://www.conservativebc.ca/johnrustad. Be kind, be human, but be honest.
