Eddie Johnson was an all-conference player at Auburn and was selected to two NBA all-star teams, but that didn't even begin to tell his story. Fighting mental illness and drug addiction during his career Johnson would spiral out of control during his career and after his retirement. How far was his fall? He was arrested around 100 times and would eventually land a sentence of life in prison. What happened? We'll share the details in this latest installment of our True Crime Sports series.

Some say the lure of LeBron James as an NBA legend started during Game 5 of the 2007 Eastern Conference Finals. After you watch that game against the Detroit Pistons, it's hard to argue with. The Pistons were the class of the conference at the time, having reached the conference finals for the 5th year in a row and were a daunting hurdle facing the young superstar. We kick off a new series we're calling 'What If' that will explore big headlines in sports and discuss how things would have changed if it would have gone differently.

To start us off, we go back to 2006 and the NFL offseason. The Miami Dolphins were in search of a quarterback for head coach Nick Saban's team and they narrowed it down to Daunte Culpepper and Drew Brees. Both guys were dealing with injuries but the medical team in Miami determined Brees was a bigger risk and he ended up signing with the New Orleans Saints.

Since that time both franchises have gone in completely opposite directions.

On this episode, we tell you about Sam Hurd, a wide receiver in the NFL that played for both the Dallas Cowboys and the Chicago Bears. In fact, he was on the receiving end of Tony Romo's first career NFL pass.

By all accounts, Hurd was a good teammate and person, but he was part of a drug sting in 2011 sent him to prison for attempting to purchase and distribute large amounts of cocaine and marijuana.

You probably remember him best as Brian Williams, the former NBA player that had a solid career in the 1990s. He played alongside Michael Jordan when the Bulls won the championship in 1997, but he abruptly retired a couple years later. 

After buying a boat and spending time traveling the world, he eventually went missing alongside a female acquaintance and the boat captain. The only person that made it off that boat was his brother, who's story changed a couple times before he overdosed and died in a hospital before the FBI could track him down.
