The University was awarded a Queen's Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education, for its research on Global Food Security — which includes everything from growing more crops with less fertiliser, to improving the nutrition, safety and taste of food on the plate. This video shows the formal presentation which took place at Buckingham Palace in February 2012, when Her Majesty The Queen presented the award to Professor David Greenaway, Vice-Chancellor of The University of Nottingham, and Professor Katherine Smart, SABMiller Professor of Brewing Science and Head of the School of Biosciences.

On 7th November 2008, Professor Roy Pea, Professor of Education and Learning Sciences at Stanford University gave a talk entitled "Learning in a Networked World" at the opening of the Learning Sciences Research Institute at the university of Nottingham. http://www.lsri.nottingham.ac.uk/
