Meet Nardine Nakhla:

Dr. Nakhla is an academic and clinical pharmacist specialized in minor ailments, non-prescription therapeutics and patient self-care with over ten years of commitment to teaching, research, advocacy and practice innovation on these topics. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and is licensed to practice pharmacy in Ontario and New York. As a faculty member at the University of Waterloo School of Pharmacy, Dr. Nakhla was recognized with the Excellence in Pharmacy Teaching Award in 2019 and received the Excellence in Science Teaching Award in 2020. In addition to her extensive academic work, Dr. Nakhla is an owner of an independent pharmacy and practices as a community pharmacist with a focus on the provision of expanded scope and minor ailment services.

Meet Mary:

Mary is a dual licensed British trained Pharmacist currently based in Ontario, Canada. Mary started her Pharmacy career in 2013 after graduating from the University of Sunderland with a First Class honors Masters degree in Pharmacy. She embarked on her journey into Clinical Pharmacy by working in diverse clinical areas within NHS hospitals in the UK. Alongside her hospital experience, she continued to build on her retail pharmacy skills by taking on weekend relief shifts and making the most out of all the opportunities that came her way. She worked as a Pharmacist in the Social Enterprise field and gained some experience in the Mental Health field before leaving the UK. She relocated to Canada and completed her licensing journey in 2019, where she now works as a Mental Health Pharmacist.

In her own words, Mary, shares that: I am passionate about stepping outside my comfort zone and encouraging others to do the same. I really believe that real growth happens when we challenge ourselves to do the very things that scare us. This is one of the reasons why I started my YouTube channel a few years ago and also why I share many career and health related content on my social media pages - so if you are looking for that extra motivation or nudge to step outside your comfort zone, you might want to start following me on my social media platforms. I offer a mentorship programme for Pharmacists and Pharmacy students who really want to challenge themselves to do better at going after their goals.' 'I am also currently working on a really exciting campaign for Pharmacists across Canada. I see there are huge gaps in the pharmacy systems here and I want to be able to be part of the change that is happening across Canada. I believe this campaign will spark some more great ideas for grater things for Pharmacists in Canada.

Meet Rui Su:

Rui Su is a pharmacist-turned-entrepreneur and an alum of the University of Waterloo's PharmD program. After repeatedly experiencing first-hand the systems-level barriers for pharmacists to deliver quality and proactive care in the community, she co-founded MedMe Health in 2019 with the goal to transform the delivery of pharmacy clinical services. Since then, she has worn multiple hats across product, business development, and engineering, scaling the MedMe experience to support over 20 million patient services and almost 4000 pharmacies across Canada. Rui has also co-authored nationally-accredited pharmacy programs and serves as a preceptor for PharmD students at University of Waterloo and University of Toronto. Thomas holds Doctor of Pharmacy and is a licensed pharmacist (PharmD, RPh). He is passionate in driving pharmacy practice toward its expanding scope. He serves as Director of a pharmacy tech startup, PharmAssess Diagnostics Corp, and Thomas’ vision is to evolve & empower the pharmacy profession. PharmAssess promotes transformative practice change by equipping pharmacies with powerful clinical software solutions that enable pharmacists to practice to their fullest clinical potential. In addition to managing PharmAssess, Thomas works as a clinical pharmacist and uses the PharmAssess platform to conduct professional services with his patients (remote medication reviews).

Thomas was the former vice-president of UofT's Pharmaceutical Technology & Entrepreneurship Club, and is a current member of various business accelerator networks. PharmAssess was nominated and later won the 2022 Global Health & Pharma biotechnology award in digital health, for the best pharmacy minor ailment software.

Thomas’ innovative and entrepreneurial spirit first emerged during his employment at UHN's Krembil Research Institute, where he worked as a drug design research appointee. He modelled blood-brain-barrier penetration of small molecule drugs using machine- learning algorithms, and engineered a blood-brain-barrier calculator (app available for desktop computers).

Dr. Catherine Duggan is the Chief Executive Officer of the International Pharmaceutical Federation and is responsible for visionary leadership, support, development, advocacy and growth across the 150 member organizations and the four million pharmacists and scientists FIP represents. In 2019, Catherine chaired the World Professions Health Alliance (represents 35 million health professionals across medicine, nursing, dentistry, physiotherapy and pharmacy) and signed the FIP MOU with WHO in May 2019 at the World Health Assembly meeting. The MoU builds on the formal established relationship WHO and FIP have held since 1948 and secures how pharmacy contributes globally to Primary Health Care to deliver Universal Health Coverage. By signing the profession up to the Astana declaration in 2018, pharmacy will present evidence of impact to health ministers of pharmacy’s impact (science, practice, workforce) to a ministers’ summit in 2023. This involves data through the FIP observatory, support through the FIP platform for provision and our FIP wide programme to deliver the 21 FIP development goals.

Until April 2018, Dr Catherine Duggan was the Director of Professional Development at the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain, where she was responsible for the delivery of professional advice and support to all members across all sectors; the development of strategies to share and showcase good practice across the profession and development and implementation of professional standards for pharmacy. From 2012, Catherine led the development, implementation and strategic embedding of RPS Faculty and Foundation programme into continuing professional development.

Dr. Duggan has published widely and presented at national and international meetings and has a wealth of people and programme management experience. She is a recognized leader across the profession working with many networks within and across the profession and, more widely, health and business. Catherine has worked in community, primary care, hospital and academia. Between 2007 and 2009, Catherine was the Chair of the United Kingdom Clinical Pharmacy Association and then an elected member of the Council of the RPSGB.
