After a nearly three-year hiatus, I’m thrilled to be back and share more diversity stories with you!

Let me introduce you to Masimba, a gentle and devoted family man who is also a talented photographer. Masimba’s journey is one of personal loss, self-discovery, and growth, both individually and as a family. He brings a deep emotional awareness and a thoughtful, considerate nature to this episode of Diversity Club.

Tarun Patel, a Case Manager with ROA, shares how this not-for-profit organisation helps migrants and refugees move from cities to welcoming regional communities and connects them to employment and business opportunities. ROA's services are free of charge for its clients and employers.

A Penny for your Thoughts...

Today's thought is starving. When you relocate to Australia, usually you and your family have sacrificed greatly to buy the air ticket. Add to that the cost of education, accommodation and general upkeep, the sacrifice continues. Coming from a developing country, a dollar does significantly more back home than it does here. So sometimes, you either do not have the money or if you do, you do not want to disrespect the sacrifice of your family by "splurging" so you starve.

Meet our guest of the week, Uma.

Uma, a teacher from the manufacturing and IT hub of India, Pune, shares her #DiversityStory. Starting off her career at a Waldorf school in India and travelling to Brisbane for her Masters. Uma talks about having to leave India within 24 hours, starving, working as an au pair to make ends meet and not been able to see family due to COVID-19.

Meet Mechanical Engineer, Dexter, this week's guest.

Dexter, originally from Zimbabwe, is a charming, charismatic and caring young man! He followed a path similar to his older brother moving to South Africa then immigrating to Australia. His journey takes us through how he balanced obtaining an engineering degree whilst working and how he has transitioned to today.

Simba, a father of three from Zimbabwe shares his migrant story that took him to South Africa and then Australia. Simba also talks about how he overcame the deaths of his parents whilst in high school and survived a hijacking that saw him being held hostage for five hours... FOUR days after the birth of his son!
