We have a choice to accept or to resist the sovereignty of God. We can partner with Him in prayer or oppose Him by trying to exert control. What a choice! Nevertheless, that is the choice before each of us, every day and in every situation and relationship.

"The issue is not what we're anxious about; the issue is we want control." Born-again believers are given the power of prayer, but not control. God alone is in control and on the throne. And what a work of surrender it is to relinquish our desire for control!

Seeing and receiving the sovereignty of God over every situation and relationship in life is an ongoing surrender for every believer. But when we resist God's sovereignty in a difficult or painful situation, we also miss the power of prayer that He's given us!

"Resistance [to God's sovereignty] makes you crazy." Letting God be God of everything and everyone in our lives is THE work of surrender! Resistance to God's sovereignty is innate to our fallen nature and the price we pay for such fruitless rebellion is high.

The truth that God is sovereign over everything can be a bitter pill to swallow. The sovereignty of God does not cancel out His goodness, but what a struggle it can be to reconcile this. Once we do, however, such a life and walk with Him we'll experience!
