It is the enemy who tells us that God's will is joyless and costly with no reward, but that's an enormous lie. The will of God sustains us, nourishes us, replenishes us, even energizes us. Tired of feeling weak and depressed? Then get in God's will!

We are absolutely free to refuse God's will. He lets us do that! But we don't seem to grasp the inherent blessing and provision and JOY that only comes with being in His will. In God's will is an open heaven with everything that we need in great abundance.

Too many Christians believe that God's will is difficult. We really believe that God is going to put us in the most miserable situations possible! And when we serve Him with a reluctant heart rather than a joyful one, it's easy to miss the glory of God's will.

Gratitude (or ingratitude) is how we choose to respond to God's sovereign rule over our lives. But God responds to us, too. Thanksgiving bears the fruit of loving God, and ingratitude bears the fruit of rejecting Him. Which fruit do we see in our own lives?

Gratitude is a choice, always a choice. How we see the world is just one of many things directly affected by whether or not we choose to give thanks to God. How many wonderful gifts of provision do we miss out on from the blindness of our ingratitude?

It's one thing to surrender to God's will. It's quite another to say, "Thank You, God!" and simply receive it. We don't know how foundational to our walk with the Lord it is to give thanks to Him in every situation—nor do we see it as the key to an open heaven.

When we give thanks to God, even for the truly painful times and situations, we are responding to His sovereignty with love and trust. What then does our ingratitude communicate to our Father? What happens when we're ungrateful for all He's done?
