Divorce the Fake Self and Marry the Authentic You
In this episode of Between the Lines, we’re going to talk about Divorcing the Fake Self to Marry the Authentic You. What does it mean? How does it happen? These may be the questions in your mind right now, but don’t worry; we’re going to experience it shortly.
Corine La Font invited Dr. Michelle R. Hannah on her show to get the answers. Michelle is a public speaker, life coach, author, and one of the most influential women today. She has recently received her doctorate in Spiritual Counseling. During her career, she has helped almost 500 couples to say together and live a better life.
She has shared her life experiences and explained how she turned out to be a person she is today. According to her, before divorcing the fake self, you have to look through your past and start determining yourself from the point where your self-concept was developed. And after that, you have to analyze who you are and what makes you happy. You should be transparent and have clear communication with yourself while doing this self-analysis.
To her, authenticity means freedom. You should be free to do what you like to do. You should start enjoying your own company. Date yourself - go to the movies, shopping, dinners; just start having fun with you. This will make you independent and you’ll not need to have anyone else to be happy.
She further stated that we should start forgiving the things in our life. We face different situations and people in our daily life that make us unhappy or angry. For dealing with these situations, she suggested the following three steps:
1. Forgive
2. Delete
3. Reset
Forgive that situation or person, delete it from your life, and reset your mind.
Like traditional marriages, she suggested that we should take self-vows or self-commitment to our life. In her book, ‘Seven Vows That Will Change Your Life’, to be released in 2019, she also mentioned her specially designed retreat program called, ‘The Self Vows Woman Retreat’. It is the next level amazing experience of taking self-vows in your life.
