Four years ago this weekend was my first time at the Ace Hotel pool in Palm Springs. It was Memorial Day Monday and we had rolled out to PS to have lunch and enjoy the afternoon. I have this vivid memory of lying by the pool and watching the DJ. He was skinny with long, blonde hair and was drinking beer in the pool with a few women; he would hop out, towel off, put on the next record (vinyl I believe) and get back in the pool. There was one track he played that just really resonated with me; it was on repeat for much of the summer and since then I have always imagined how I would play an afternoon poolside set at the Ace.

This mix started with that inspiration and took a bit of a dancier and more vocal path but still holds true to capturing the start of summer feeling. It is longer than anything I have released in a long time, it has taken weeks and weeks to pull together and includes some of the actual records heard at the pool over the years as well as the fabled track I mentioned above. Whether you are by the pool, at the beach, having a party, chilling at home or in the car. . . sit back, relax, make your self a drink and enjoy Paloma Fresca Volume 1.
