Episode 11- Folkways, Part 1

In 1948 Moses Asche and Marian Distler founded Folkways Records. In the years that followed, Moe, and later his employees, travelled all over America and then throughout the world recording folk music until his death in 1986. In this very special episode DJ Jason Danger will trace some of these journeys, covering folk music from all over the US, Canada, the Netherlands, Germany, Mexico, the Philippines, Vietnam and beyond.

DJ Jason Danger takes you on an audio tour of contemporary songs from sub-Saharan Africa, including Zulu house (kwaito), techno from Timbuktu, protest tunes from Zimbabwe, & Ethiopian pop.

Inspired by the Art exhibit of the same name, this episode will recover Africa from the "traditional" and locate it instead in the "fact of the present."
