Side A.
Not sure if I already posted this or maybe heard it somewhere online? But this is copy from thee actual master. As always, there is a story to each mixtape I have in my collection.
On this mixtape, the story goes like this.
Okay, it's 1988', I'm in my 2nd yr @ Full Sail University learning the art of recording engineer, live sound, music bisiness, film, producing, etc... Like I said b4, it's 1988' & I'm like the only cat in Orlando, Florida that knows about that raw sound coming out of Chicago & now Detroit & NYC. Everytime someone told me they knew about house music, I was like yeah okay... & I was always disapointed to hear some1 say they know house then play me some european joint or something that wasn't near what Chicago was putting out.
So my sister Angie went out clubbing with her then boyfriend Tito now husband... & he brought one of his coworkers who was new in town from Michigan. Anyhow, that night when my sister met this young man. He started talking about House Music... & my sister knowing me well, asked this cat, how do you know about House Music... & he was like, I go to Chicago on the weekends & hit the clubs & record the radio mixshows. So my sister was like, I have to ask him 1 more question to make this solid. She asked him who was his favorite DJ from Chicago... & his reply was Farley "JackMaster" Funk. Man, she was blown away & told this cat... YOU HAVE 2 MEET MY BROTHER MANNY LIKE ASAP!!!
So the following day I was reading a Face Mag from the London on the hood of my car where it had this article about the Summer Of Love Acid House Parties in the UK. Then from a distance, I hear this music coming down the street that sounded so familar. All of a sudden this car pulls up my driveway & I hear the song playing & it's Mr. Lee "Pump Up Chicago". I knew right away this was the guy my sister wanted me to meet. So he steps out of the car & he looked HOUSE. His hair style & the clothes he wore had House written all over it!!LOL Me, I was wearing a t-shirt with a baseball cap that said "House Nation" on it.
From that day we became brothers... We gotta thank Farley, cause it was his mixtape that bonded us. I was like FINALLY I know someone like me!!!
From there my brother Ned would be next 2 me & my brothers at all our KCP parties. For those who know me well, I tend to give people nicknames. He was my "House Meter". Every record I played I'd run it by him to see if it got the okay... I also gave him the nickname, Ned "The Minister Of House". As he would preach at some of our events over the Chicago House we played & Detroit jointz as well. So that's that story... I think in the future I'll just record some of these stories at the beginning of some of my tapes so you can get some my house history.
With all that being said, this is a copy of the tape Ned was playing in his car when we first met. It's a very special tape I must say.
You Will Dig This!!!
