Welcome to Volume 15 of my Africanisms series, what a fantastic and ever evolving journey it continues to be.

In this mix we keep the Afro Beats and Jungle Drums front and centre with an exploration of both new and old sounds, that shake the ground and add yet another layer to the deepness of the music both out of and inspired by the continent of Africa.

What is Jazz?

Is it freedom, is it tradition, is it alive, does it continue to evolve and thrive or is it an art form stuck in time. I cannot answer any of these questions or even really tell you what Jazz is. I can tell you how it makes me feel, where it takes me and what it means to me, but best I leave that to the music which does it much more eloquently.

This is Volume 12 in the series and I'm super happy to present https://www.mixcloud.com/huas/ as my guest. Has I would have to say is one of the most eclectic, regular and best contributors of mixes on mixcloud. His tastes are wide and his support of others in noteworthy.

Huas says 'personally I prefer my jazz to be funky, soulful and a bit freaky. For this mix I selected funky, groovy jazz and jazz-funk from all over the world. Some tunes are a bit freaky but always catchy and with a soulful vibe'.

Huas provides the first 49 minutes and I follow with selections inspired by his wonderful mix.

SPQR is beautiful little wood fired pizzeria in Melbourne, managed by my good friend https://www.mixcloud.com/TomShowtime/.

I dj there every Thursday night from 6pm - 9pm and I play 45s only with no specific genre to stick to.

Each week I try to change it up, so one week it might be Afrobeat, Ethio and Afro sounds with some Latin and Brazilian, another week it'll be Reggae, Lovers Rock, Rocksteady and Ska, then perhaps all Soul, or all Funk.

This session is all Soul and Funk 45s.
