Welcome to Volume 2 of my mix series 'Plates From The Crates'.

This series is about digging deep in my vinyl collection. It’s all about my guilty pleasures, favorite records, records that hold memories and that I inherited from my mum, uncool records and country folk records.

This series is not about mixing the latest sounds and trying to be cool. The records pop, crackle and hiss but tell a story about my life and the music that I have heard, collected and enjoyed and that brings back great memories of travels, lost friends, house parties, university, my younger years, listening to music in my mum's kitchen and on my dad's truck radio.

Each volume will be different as I dig into other sections of my vinyl collection and bring you some of my most favourite uncool records. I hope you can bear it.

Those who know me, know that I love nothing more than throwing down some 45s and I was recently asked by the hosts of The Low End Theory to do a 20 minute an all 45s mix for their radio show. The problem was I couldn't stop at 20 minutes and continued for another 20 minutes!

So here you have it 40 minutes of absolute bangers on 45, mixed live in 1 take, with 2 turntables and an S9 mixer.

Push the furniture back, put the drinks on ice, turn this up loud and prepare to really dance and shake what your momma gave you.

Ah I had to drop this one on my page as it was so fun doing it and pulling out these old 12" records, when I hadn't played many of them for a very long time.

This mix originally appeared on Dj D's 1200 Mixbosses radio show out of Sydney, Australia on 16 July 2020 and is part of her '1200 Twelves' project where she is sharing the mixes of 100 Djs from around the world who all will be playing 12 x 12s in a live mix recording.

So for many years my good mate and Dj partner Obliveus has asked me to play at his annual bad 80s Pop dress up party.

I've always said no, as that is 2 things I don't like and enjoy together in one night!

Last year after many years of saying no and to make my friends and my wife happy, strangely I said yes.

To say that I enjoyed the night would probably be an over statement, as hearing Whitney, Bon Jovi, Denise Williams and Obliveus singing along is more than I can take in one lifetime.

I actually did buy some Pop 45s in the 80s, as that was the way I accessed music back then and they were affordable and I have held onto them all this time.

Before that night, I had never played them out or in a set anywhere and after hearing this mix, my car crash selections and poor mixing across genres, you may ask me never to do it again!

But hey it was the 80s and the Pop Charts were much more eclectic than today and as a kid I made pause tapes, that probably sounded similar to this mix.
