This was my submission for the Low Island "Everything Before Us" remix competition. I was struggling finding something that would stick (I had scrapped three other previous attempts), but on Tuesday afternoon I had put on "The Eyes of Stanley Pain", a mid-90s record from Download, and decided to take a bit of inspiration from it. This isn't as harsh and abrasive as that record, but I think the drum pattern and vibes of the synths through the verse section are a reflection of it.
The bassline is new, but samples the original stem, and the warbly synth is also the original stem, though treated heavily. Formant shifted the vocal line, and in the B-section added a fair amount of Audio Damage's Replicant plugin to it. Other synths are also from Audio Damage, including Continua (lead) and Phosphor (pads), and also the "drum" break that fades in during the B section is the very underrated Axon. Ableton 707 drum rack, with another Ableton pack (acoustic guitar noises, or something like that) providing additional percussion.
