“It’s gotten way bigger than I thought it would“

Episode 61 features a larger than life character in Colin Burgin Plews, better known in fundraising and running circles as the Big Pink Dress. He tells us how he was a shy lad as a youngster but found a talent for running in the Navy and went on to don his iconic outfit at races from the Great North Run to the London Marathon.

We hear about how he was influenced by Diana Ross to ditch the Hawaiian shorts, met Nancy Sinatra in the green room and got confused counting rhinos. There's the spark which got him started and the inspiring individuals who keep him going on the road. Meanwhile Kenneth shows off on the dancefloor and James worries about beetles.

“It was like seven stages of grief“

Not one but three guests for you in our latest episode which features fundraisers affected by COVID-19. Whether it’s taking a step back, redundancy or the uncertain future for the sector, we’re talking about how we’re all people pleasers, job-hunting in a crowded market and the seven stages of furlough. “He’s a blessing… he’s so naughty.“

This week we bring ourselves back from podcast furlough to sit down with Caroline Thwaites, the founder of Harry’s Hat - volunteer fundraiser, award-winner, insta-celebrity and mum to Harry in addition to holding down her role as Fundraising Manager at RASASC. Captain Kenneth wants to know all about the flirty journalist, James is looking for material to report back to Japan with and our guest is dodging her citizenship homework.

We talk about working for smaller organisations, setting them up and the challenges of appreciating other’s priorities.
