We're heading back to the International Fundraising Congress in Noordwijk, so it felt like a good time to get all nostalgic over our previous episode from the Netherlands back in 2019. "It's a community coming together"

James and Kenneth struggle to contain their excitement around the upcoming International Fundraising Congress, mainly due to the prospect of dressing up as their hometown myths and legends. Fortunately they are joined by CEO of The Resource Alliance, Willeke Van Rijn to bring some sense (and a sense of health and safety) to proceedings.

"We don't give enough kudos to fundraisers"

To reduce our FOMO from missing the Scottish Fundraising Conference this year we talked to the host of the Awards Ceremony for his thoughts on the sessions, his love of conferences and how he manages not to cry when presenting the oscars.

We’re checking in after a couple of great episodes, reflecting on Alex and Karen whilst also sharing a couple of secrets from behind the scenes at Do More Good HQ.

We’re transported back to car journeys in the eighties by the background music before James makes his second pitch for a ban on tequila. We talk through the big challenge facing Karen at Drinkaware in creating lasting societal change, but perhaps the harder task of Kenneth finding a willing PA.

"Prisons are like a miniature universe"

This week we’re joined by the CEO of Drinkaware, Karen Tyrell, to talk through her career - from cell rooms to the boardroom. We get into society’s complicated relationship with alcohol and managing the organisation’s relationship with big business.

We kick off this week by revealing the fastest parkruns in the country, braving outdoor swimming and diving into a category A prison straight out of university. Karen shares the stories from the front line which led to a passion for supporting people. We find out what kind of chief executive she is, the importance of a strong foundation and how she plans to achieve massive societal change. James makes an unsuccessful pitch to ban tequila, Karen talks seatbelts and Kenneth wants to know how to remain independent.

"Everyone doing really well, invests in email"

Bringing her Geordie-South-African accent to the show is Alex Fearon, the third sector’s email guru.

She puts up with some chat about Kenneth’s new role and politely doesn’t mention that James has come dressed as a 20-year-old pop star before delving into the dark arts of email. It’s a hundred days without a drink for Kenneth as he describes ordering tea in the pub and his fears for how this might affect the show.
