The Word of God sets before us hope of what we could become. However, the instructions of God meet us at different levels in our spiritual development. As such, many of the spiritual steps we take may not yield the anticipated results. For example, as we strive to suffer righteously, we may not immediately get a breakthrough. This is because, it takes several tortuous steps to attain spiritual mastery. We end up expecting our initial steps to deliver the ultimate, being ignorant of the marathon nature of the journey. This opens a door for the enemy to bombard our thoughts; convincing us that the hope set forth by the Word has been dashed, and that our suffering has been in vain.
