The most-recent poverty statistics by Statistic South Africa showed that despite a decline in poverty between 2006 and 2011, poverty levels had once again over half of all South Africans (55.5%), 30.4 million people, were living in poverty. Stats SA has published its latest Quarterly Labour Force Survey for the three months to March 2020, revealing that the country’s unemployment rate rose in the first quarter of the year. We now stand at 30.1% unemployment in the first quarter of 2020. These are but a few critical issues that face our country on a daily basis.
