Alex Garland is back in the limelight with his biggest project yet. Civil War is a political thriller... or should I say... a thriller that is less political than we thought. This movie stars Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, and Cailee Spaeny as "freelance" journalists who are taking pictures of the horrific Civil War that has broken out in America and are on a road trip to Washington DC for a story of a lifetime.
Garland leans less on the political commentary than what was promised in the marketing, but maybe it was better for it? Join Billy Rock and Drew Wendt as they discuss the masterful tension, oddly timed needle-drops, and Kirsten Dunst spotlight that Civil War provides.

Next year's Oscars are about one year away, but that's not stopping Drew and Billy from making some blind predictions for what will be contending at the 2025 Academy Awards. This episode combines two things this podcast loves: 1) Hyping up movies the world hasn't seen yet, and 2) competing against each other in a draft-based competition.
Drew and Billy pick 2024 movies and performances in six different categories that they are betting will be nominated and/or win next year. After the 2025 Oscars, they'll tally up the points and see who won. Join DYLA as they look into their Oscars crystal ball.
