This week in fatphobia we’re talking about Kim K’s Met Gala crash diet and Lili Reinhart’s response to it. Then we dive into the episode of Survivor that aired on 5/4/2022. There was a powerful discussion on race that happened in the episode and we felt compelled to share it from our white lady lens in case it might be helpful to you on your anti-racist journey! There are some spoilers mentioned, so if you’re not caught up, skip ahead a bit!
Our listener question this week is about how to break out of the cycle of what feels like “obligatory sex” in a long term heterosexual relationship.
Our win of the week section got hijacked by the Supreme Court’s leaked draft. BUT–don’t despair, Cassie gives some actionable steps you can take to help the situation and ideally feel like you’re not just watching this hell-scape we’re living in go up in smoke entirely.
Episode highlights:
“I kind of like the idea of not using her name.”
“Does Kim really need anymore going on right now? No. But does she put herself in these situations? Yeah.”
“We’re asking her to stop with this really harmful diet culture talk 24/7.”
“She has the right to do these things to her body.”
“When people are hungry they don’t have the most sound judgment.”
“It’s very easy to have a heart for someone that is mentally ill so visibly, but that’s not the only issue.”
“One, ew, can we stop with the virgin thing?”
“It’s not fucking about you!”
“My white lady feels”
“This is about being aware of the way that the world works for people that aren’t like you.”
“Where’s the fucking fun?”
