Collagen makes up roughly a third of all the protein in the human body and is essential for skin elasticity, healthy joints, and strong arteries. After about age 25, the body’s natural collagen production begins to decline, which can lead to wrinkles, weaker connective tissue, and slower recovery. Because collagen itself is only found in animal tissue, plant-based foods can’t provide it directly but can supply supportive nutrients such as vitamin C, which helps the body use and maintain collagen. Different types of collagen serve different purposes. Type I and III are abundant in skin and tendons, Type II supports cartilage, and Types V and X are important for specialized connective tissues. Rich food sources include fish skin, chicken cartilage, bone broth, and other animal parts high in connective tissue. One of the most concentrated natural sources is rooster comb, followed closely by chicken feet and fish skin, all of which provide high-quality collagen in forms the body can easily absorb.
