I knew how to earn money as a GP, but I had no idea how to make that money grow. In this first episode of Doctors Helping Doctors Grow, finance broker Shubham Bhaskar and I take turns interviewing each other about the money side of medicine that nobody teaches you.

My investing really started after I became a single mum with two kids on one income, and I talk through why one commercial property ended up out-earning my four or five residential properties on cash flow. I also explain why two major lenders gave me completely different answers on the same numbers, and the LinkedIn post about my offset account that led me to Shubham.

Then I turn the questions on Shubham, who spent eight years inside a major bank before starting Sheel Capital. He explains what a bank weighs up when you borrow for a business compared with a property, and lays out exactly how brokers get paid, including why the cash sitting in your offset account means your broker earns less. That's how I found out, on camera, that I've been making him almost nothing.
