He thought every kid lived like this. He didn't even realize they were poor until much later in life. Didn't everyone have to to go through bouts of abuse? Hunger drove him to steal on a weekly bases from a nearby convenience store. He became the provider and self appointed protector of his little sister Violet. His Dad was always out of the picture. Despite his less than ideal circumstances, he loved his mother deeply and longed to fix what was plaguing her.
At the age of 8 his mother never returned from a weekend of partying and this was reported to CPS. The next few years of their lives were different foster families, court dates, and occasional visits from their Mom. When it was determined, that she would never get her rights back he was adopted at the age of 12.
His physical circumstances instantly improved, he couldn't believe the house he got to live in or the fact that he always had enough food! The first Christmas he spent with his new family felt like a movie. But the pain, hatred, and anger that had hardened his heart would not allow him to accept his new parents. He kept waiting for the other shoe to drop. They tried everything sports, counselors, rehab- they even tried moving to a little town in Prescott AZ away from the high crime and big city. It all kept spiraling out of control.
He didn't know God or who He was but in a last ditch effort He said. "IF YOU'RE REAL; BE IN MY LIFE"
