Like a trapeze artist who let’s go of one trapeze but hasn’t quite grabbed a hold of the next, the transition from ministry to retirement can be both exhilarating & frightening. And I daresay the analogy holds true for a congregation & school saying goodbye to their friend & leader & are wondering about the future without him as well.

Sometimes people say, “Don’t put all your eggs in one basket.” That may be good advice when it comes to investing your money, but it’s terrible advice for investing your soul. It’s okay to put all your eggs in one basket if the basket is labeled “Jesus.”

What do you do when God doesn’t live up to your expectations? How do you respond when the Lord’s answer isn’t what you wanted? Habakkuk was troubled by something that troubles all of us. He couldn’t reconcile his view of God with the injustice he saw all around him.

When Paul wrote these words, he had no idea if he’d ever get out of jail in Rome. He therefore must assume that he might never visit Philippi again. That’s why this passage deserves our close attention. It’s the “just one thing” Paul wanted to make clear in case he never saw them in person again.

Death is not the end of the story for those who know the Lord. The Bible tells us what lies ahead for those who know Jesus. As we come to 2 Corinthians 5, we discover wonderful truths that give us hope as we face death with all its dark fears.

In Nehemiah 8 we have 1 mark of true revival. Revival is upon us when God’s people once again hunger for God’s Word. When they say, “Bring us The Book,” we know that God’s Spirit has come in great power.

Impacting the world begins as Christ-followers stand together “in one spirit.” It’s like a coach saying to his players, “We win together & we lose together.” In other words, we are not to divide—and yet we do, sometimes over trivial issues. There are already too many barriers in the body of Christ—race, skin color, geography, worship style, mode of baptism & denominational affiliation.

God intends that when we stand before him, he will say, “Does anyone in the whole universe know any reason why this person should not enter heaven?” At that point there will be a loud silence as no one—not the angels or the demons, not the saints or the sinners—no one in all the universe will be able to bring any charge against God’s elect.
