Most evenings, I try to get out to the park for a hike. Last night Meika (our little white fur-ball dog-type pet) and I headed off to Birds Hill for a lap on Cedar Bog. It’s a familiar place; I’ve been hiking there for years, in all seasons and most conditions. But last night the trail surface was about as treacherous as any I’ve seen. The combination of thaw/freeze, a light dusting of fresh snow and higher than usual traffic left a surface that was both chopped up and glassy smooth, very difficult to get traction and almost impossible to keep your balance on. Meika was fine; she has four-wheel drive and a very low center of gravity. Her human made it through, but he was constantly off balance, skidding from one section to the next, barely propped up by determination and a hiking pole.
Sunday morning we’ll meet here at 10:45 a.m. for music and Community Time. We’ll follow that with the Talky Bit, after which we’ll have our customary Sunday Zoom hangout “And Lunch After” at 12:15. Here’s the link for that:
