Does Anybody Have Some Water?
Most evenings, I try to get out to the park for a hike. Last night Meika (our little white fur-ball dog-type pet) and I headed off to Birds Hill for a lap on Cedar Bog. It’s a familiar place; I’ve been hiking there for years, in all seasons and most conditions. But last night the trail surface was about as treacherous as any I’ve seen. The combination of thaw/freeze, a light dusting of fresh snow and higher than usual traffic left a surface that was both chopped up and glassy smooth, very difficult to get traction and almost impossible to keep your balance on. Meika was fine; she has four-wheel drive and a very low center of gravity. Her human made it through, but he was constantly off balance, skidding from one section to the next, barely propped up by determination and a hiking pole.
That hike felt the way I think lots of us feel when we’re exploring what we believe – like it’s hard to get traction, tough to find a sense of rhythm or balance, disconcerting and awkward. And yet, it’s also kind of exhilarating; a good challenge, an antidote to same-old, same-old, and the sort of struggle that both keeps us humble and makes us stronger. Not a bad trade off, perhaps, but also one where it’s nice to know you don’t have to go it alone. That’s basically what our Talky Bit will be about this Sunday. Regarding the subject line for this email, I’ll just say it’s a reference to a personal story I’m planning to share.

Sunday morning we’ll meet here at 10:45 a.m. for music and Community Time. We’ll follow that with the Talky Bit, after which we’ll have our customary Sunday Zoom hangout “And Lunch After” at 12:15. Here’s the link for that:

Next Sunday (March 21st) will be the first of Wally’s two sessions on Indigenous Circle of Life teachings, more commonly known as the Medicine Wheel teachings.. Just a reminder that “And Lunch After” those two weeks will be a chance to engage on a personal level with what Wally has been sharing; to talk about and listen to others share what connected for, challenged or confounded them. Watch this space, our Facebook page and / or the website for details in the coming week. I’m so excited about these!!
